Dodgers Prospect Chase Harlan Gets A Big Power Test In Arizona

Dodgers prospect Chase Harlan is set to showcase his raw power in a high-stakes Arizona Fall League Home Run Derby showdown.

Los Angeles Dodgers prospect Chase Harlan will get a spotlight Saturday night at Salt River Fields, where he’s been selected for the fifth annual Arizona Fall League Home Run Derby.

The event begins at 5:30 p.m. PT and will feature an eight-man field seeded into a single-elimination bracket based on home runs hit in Arizona Fall League games through play on Friday.

If players finish with the same home run total, the tiebreaker goes to the hitter with the longest homer. If that still doesn’t separate them, the higher seed goes to the player with the greater combined distance on his homers.

Harlan is the second Dodgers Minor Leaguer to take part in the derby, following Andy Pages in 2022.

The Dodgers selected Harlan in the third round of the 2024 MLB Draft. At this stage, raw power is his loudest tool, while his biggest area for growth is making contact against pitches other than fastballs. In 2026, he split time between Single-A Ontario and High-A Great Lakes.

The derby format starts with a 90-second preliminary round, and every home run hit there carries into the first round. From there, the bracket is set as No. 1 against No.

8, No. 2 against No. 7, No. 3 against No. 6, and No. 4 against No. 5, with the higher seed batting first in each matchup.

The second round keeps the head-to-head setup, with the No. 1/No. 8 winner meeting the No.

4/No. 5 winner, and the No. 2/No. 7 winner facing the No.

3/No. 6 winner. The final round decides the 2026 Arizona Fall League Home Run Derby champion.

After the preliminary round, hitters will have nine outs in each round to pile up as many homers as they can. If a round ends in a tie, the competition goes to successive one-swing swing-offs until someone wins. No bonus time based on distance will be awarded.

The full field also includes Antonio Anderson of the Boston Red Sox, Eric Bitonti of the Milwaukee Brewers, Brooks Bryan of the Kansas City Royals, Yerlin Confidan of the Cincinnati Reds, Alex McCoy of the San Diego Padres, Jack O’Dowd of the Colorado Rockies and Tai Peete of the St. Louis Cardinals.

Dodgers Fans Have A New Prospect Debate With A Fall Stars Twist

Major League Baseballs Fall Stars Game roster announcement gave Dodgers fans a fresh reason to keep an eye on the Arizona Fall League, with third baseman Chase Harlan and pitcher Luke Fox landing on the National League team. The showcase will be played Sunday at Salt River Fields and aired on MLB Network, giving the organization another chance to see two of its prospects on a bigger stage.

Now the debate shifts to who should join them, with fans voting on one more National League spot from a pool that includes Dodgers prospects Eduardo Quintero and Charles Davalan, along with Padres infielder Justin DeCriscio. For a player development system that has already put two names on the roster, the final choice adds a little extra intrigue for Dodgers followers who have been tracking the fall circuit closely. Dodgers Could Be Near A Tough Kik Hernndez Decision

Kik Hernndez has been one of the more familiar October pieces in the Dodgers recent run, a utility presence who has shown up in postseason after postseason since 2015 and given the club flexibility all over the diamond. Even with that track record, the offseason always has a way of forcing uncomfortable choices, and Hernndezs status is now part of that familiar roster churn as Los Angeles weighs how to reshape its bench and defensive depth.

One name that has surfaced in that conversation is Mauricio Dubon, the versatile defender most recently with the Atlanta Braves. Dubon would likely come at a higher salary, which only adds to the calculus for a Dodgers front office trying to balance value with familiarity, and while a move away from Hernndez looks increasingly possible, it is not yet official. Padres Could Lose A Bullpen Weapon To A Familiar Rival

The Dodgers have already made one major bullpen splash by landing Edwin Daz, and they are not likely to stop there as they keep looking for ways to deepen a roster built to chase another title. With Tarik Skubal expected to be a major winter target, Los Angeles is also being linked to a more immediate relief-market possibility in Padres left-hander Adrin Morejn, a pitcher who has quietly become one of the more interesting names in the division.

Morejn has been extended a qualifying offer by San Diego and has until November 17 to decide whether to take it or test free agency, which leaves the door open for a familiar rival to make a run at him. For the Dodgers, the appeal is obvious: pairing Morejn with Daz would give them another high-end bullpen look, while also turning a Padres weapon into part of the same late-inning mix that has long frustrated opponents in the National League West.
