With the Aug. 3 trade deadline creeping closer, the Dodgers are still being linked to all kinds of possibilities - but the latest buzz points to something a little less flashy than a blockbuster. According to MLB insider Jon Heyman of The New York Post, Los Angeles is among the teams keeping tabs on the market for a right-handed bat.
Heyman dropped the Dodgers into a broader discussion of Mets outfielder Tyrone Taylor, writing, "Tyrone Taylor is a capable fourth outfielder who’s hot, but he doesn’t have the hitting pedigree that will motivate teams seeking a righty bat (Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, Phillies, Mariners)," Heyman wrote.
That mention stands out because the Dodgers don’t exactly look short on right-handed hitting. With utility man Kiké Hernández back from injury, the roster already has plenty of balance on that side. That makes Taylor feel more like a fit in a very specific scenario - maybe if Los Angeles moved on from outfielder Alex Call - than an obvious priority on his own.
The more likely path for the Dodgers still appears to be smaller moves, especially around depth. Injured players should be returning soon, which lowers the urgency for a major swing. The front office also has the kind of asset base that would let it chase just about anyone, but for now the expectation is more about fine-tuning than a dramatic overhaul.
There is still a case for the Dodgers to keep searching for right-handed pop, though. With Will Smith out and Teoscar Hernández and Mookie Betts struggling, the lineup has been missing some production from that side. Even so, replacing a regular in the lineup doesn’t seem especially likely, and Hernández’s return helps cover the bench.
If Los Angeles wants to solve more than one issue at once, a right-handed hitting catcher could make sense. That would give the Dodgers another bat while also pairing with Dalton Rushing. Two names that fit that mold are Ryan Jeffers of the Minnesota Twins and Tyler Stephenson of the Cincinnati Reds.
One other possibility: Taylor could become part of a larger deal with the Mets. New York starting pitcher Freddy Peralta has been on the trade block this summer, and the Dodgers were interested in him last offseason.

The Tigers roster move on Monday created one more name for catcher-needy teams to monitor as the trade deadline approaches. Detroit activated Javier Baez from the 60-day injured list and cleared a spot on its 40-man roster by designating Jake Rogers for assignment, a notable turn for a player long valued more for his glove than his bat.
