The Dodgers’ roster got a jolt on Monday, with the club activating two key players from the injured list and sending two others down in a move that matters most in the final week of the regular season and the stretch into October.
That shuffle comes as Los Angeles also got a reassuring update on Tyler Glasnow. Manager Dave Roberts said the right-hander is healthy, a welcome sign with the postseason closing in and the Dodgers looking for Glasnow to be at his best in the rotation.
“It is just making sure he’s feeling good, he’s healthy, which he is,” Roberts said. “So now it’s just letting him go do what he does and bet on the talent to perform.
That’s where I think we all feel good, especially Tyler right now, just knowing the health and where the head’s at, all that stuff. We’re in a good spot.”
Elsewhere, Tarik Skubal is already drawing attention for what could be coming next winter. ESPN senior MLB insider Jeff Passan wrote that the two-time Cy Young winner could command nearly $500 million when he reaches free agency this offseason.
"A deal of that magnitude would presumably be for at least a decade - the sort of commitment teams might balk at because of his age. But someone is going to pay an exorbitant amount for his services," Passan wrote.
Skubal was also in the spotlight for a different reason after Saturday’s game, when he showed visible frustration in the dugout during what was easily his worst start in a Dodgers uniform. He still came away with the win because of timely offense, but he allowed four earned runs on eight hits in five innings.
“Sometimes you get frustrated and you got to get it out,” Skubal said. “It’s no good just keeping it pent up.
So yeah, I’m a believer in getting that stuff out and kind of just moving on from the moment. The frustration is based on execution and knowing who I am and I’m just not doing that.”
The Dodgers’ final week is lined up with a Padres series and a trip to San Francisco, and the latest roster and injury news gives them a little more clarity as they head into the finish.
