Dodgers Get Encouraging Blake Snell, Phillips Update

Dodgers' pitching staff sees key players like Blake Snell and Evan Phillips making strides in recovery, hinting at an impactful return this season.

As the Los Angeles Dodgers set their Opening Day roster for the 2026 season, they also faced a wave of injuries, particularly impacting their pitching staff. Notable names like Brusdar Graterol, Evan Phillips, Blake Snell, and Brock Stewart are currently sidelined, adding a layer of complexity to the Dodgers' early-season plans.

Evan Phillips is recovering from Tommy John surgery, and his return isn't expected until the summer. However, there are positive signs as he's already working off the mound. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts noted, “He looked pretty sharp in his ‘pen,” signaling a promising start to his recovery.

Blake Snell, dealing with left shoulder inflammation, is also making strides. Roberts observed Snell during a bullpen session and commented, “He looked really good too.”

While there's hope for a return by the end of May, the Dodgers are focused on ensuring Snell is fully healthy for the postseason. This cautious approach suggests a likely return closer to June or July, as Snell will need a thorough rehab assignment.

Brock Stewart is further along in his recovery journey. He recently faced live batters, including Alex Call and Dalton Rushing, during a session at Dodger Stadium.

Roberts praised Stewart’s performance, noting the effectiveness of his pitch mix. Stewart is expected to face batters once more before potentially starting a rehab assignment, which could happen before the Dodgers embark on their first road trip of the season.

Stewart, who joined the Dodgers from the Minnesota Twins last year, is eager to make a bigger impact this season. With uncertainties surrounding other right-handed relievers, his role could be crucial as the Dodgers navigate these early challenges.
