Dodgers Finally Know When Their NLDS Opener Will Begin

Fans brace for sweltering heat as the Dodgers' NLDS Game 1 locks in a midday start at the iconic Dodger Stadium.

The Dodgers will open their National League Division Series on Saturday at Dodger Stadium with a 1 p.m. PT first pitch, and Fox will carry the game.

That start time fell into place after the San Diego Padres finished off the Chicago Cubs with a 4-1 win Wednesday night, wrapping up a two-game sweep and setting up a Division Series matchup with the Milwaukee Brewers. Major League Baseball had already laid out possible start-time scenarios for the first three days of the Division Series on Tuesday, and San Diego’s win locked in the Dodgers’ slot for Game 1.

The winner of Thursday’s wild card Game 3 between the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies will be the Dodgers’ opponent in the NLDS. That game is set for 5 p.m. PT Thursday at Truist Park in Atlanta, with NBC televising it and Peacock streaming it.

Saturday’s opener in Los Angeles could come with serious heat. Forecasts call for temperatures mostly in the high 90s around Los Angeles, with a high of 101 degrees at Elysian Park. The only postseason game at Dodger Stadium on record with a start-time temperature in triple digits was Game 1 of the 2017 World Series, which began at 103 degrees.

If the Cubs had advanced instead, the schedule would have shifted. Cubs-Brewers would have taken the 1 p.m. PT window on Saturday, and the Dodgers would have played at 6 p.m.

The rest of the Division Series start times have not been announced yet.

Dodgers Face A Miguel Rojas Postseason Wrinkle They Didn't Expect

Miguel Rojas is juggling more than the usual October pressure as the Dodgers get ready for the National League Division Series. The veteran infielder is scheduled to take his U.S. citizenship test on Oct. 2 in Miami, a timing quirk that could pull him away from the club at the exact moment the postseason begins. Rojas is hoping to make it back in time for Game 1, but the Dodgers are once again being asked to plan around a player whose value goes beyond the box score.

There is also a bigger layer hanging over the situation, one that makes this more than just a travel inconvenience. Rojas has said he would only keep playing if the Dodgers offer him a contract, and his current deal runs out after the World Series, leaving his future unsettled even as the club tries to line up for October. For a team that has leaned on experience and versatility all season, it is a reminder that the roster questions do not stop when the bracket does. [Read more 🡒]

Dodgers NLDS Opener Comes With A Tough Twist Fans Will Feel

The Dodgers now know their NLDS opener will arrive Saturday at 1 p.m. PT, and the matchup will come against either the Braves or the Phillies once the deciding game is settled Thursday. San Diegos sweep through the Wild Card round cleared the path for Los Angeles, but the first step of this next series carries an immediate test before a pitch is even thrown.

Forecasts are calling for temperatures near 100 degrees for the opener, a brutal backdrop that could shape how the game is played. Heat this extreme can wear on hitters and lengthen the challenge for both clubs, making the start of the series feel less like a normal October afternoon and more like a survival test. [Read more 🡒]

Dodgers Bullpen Picture Suddenly Includes One Intriguing October Wild Card

Edgardo Henriquez is back in the mix at exactly the kind of moment the Dodgers have been waiting for. Activated from the injured list Tuesday, the young right-hander is now trending toward a spot on the clubs NLDS roster as he works through the final tests that will determine whether he is ready for October.

Brandon Gomes said Henriquez will make the roster if he gets through live hitters and simulated games, and that puts a little extra intrigue around a bullpen that does not yet have a settled late-inning order. For a Dodgers relief group still sorting out roles, Henriquez offers a potentially useful October arm, but the last hurdle remains the most important one. [Read more 🡒]
