Dodgers Finally Got The Injury Update Fans Have Been Waiting For

A trio of Dodgers stars, including Kik Hernndez and Edwin Daz, embark on pivotal rehab assignments as the team eyes their rapid return to the field.

The Dodgers are inching toward getting some familiar names back, even if Will Smith’s recovery from a neck injury remains on hold for now. Edwin Díaz, Kiké Hernández and Blake Snell are all moving through rehab work, and Díaz and Hernández appear to be ahead of Snell in the process.

Díaz took another step Friday night, throwing a scoreless inning for Single-A Ontario in his second rehab appearance. He needed just 13 pitches, 9 of them strikes, and punched out two batters.

Both of his rehab outings so far have come with the Tower Buzzers. His next appearance is expected Sunday, and Dave Roberts said the right-hander will need to pitch on back-to-back days before the Dodgers activate him from the 60-day injured list.

Hernández also got his rehab assignment underway Friday, joining Triple-A Oklahoma City after what the Dodgers had described as a significant left oblique strain. He went 1-for-3 with a double and logged five innings at third base in the Comets’ loss to the Tacoma Rainiers, the Seattle Mariners affiliate. Hernández has his sights set on returning when the team opens its homestand on July 28.

“Honestly, he looks normal,” Roberts said earlier this month. “It’s really, I don’t want to say miraculous, but I’m really in disbelief how well he’s responded, given the injury.

… Swinging, throwing, everything. There’s no compensation or feeling it.

Certainly a quick healer. He’s working hard to get back.”

Because Hernández will still be in the middle of his rehab work, he is one of the players who will not be with the Dodgers for their White House visit on July 23.

Snell is the last of the group to get rolling. He is scheduled to start for the Comets on Saturday in his first rehab game, with the expectation that he’ll work two innings. Snell opened the 2026 season on the injured list because of left shoulder fatigue, then made only one start before landing back on the shelf, this time with loose bodies in his left elbow that eventually led to surgery.

That procedure used the same NanoNeedle Scope 2.0 that Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal had for his operation, though Snell’s was a longer surgery and involved removing multiple loose bodies. Skubal’s operation lasted 30 minutes and included the removal of one loose body. The Dodgers’ cautious approach with injured players has helped shape a slower timeline for Snell than the one Skubal followed.

Dodgers Finally Found The Answer Fans Needed In The Bronx

The Dodgers got exactly the kind of start they needed in the Bronx, leaning on Roki Sasaki to steady a game that could have slipped away early. At Yankee Stadium, Sasaki worked through traffic and kept the Yankees from turning the afternoon into a bigger problem, giving Los Angeles a chance to settle in and let the rest of the roster do its part.

From there, the game turned into the sort of tight, late-inning test the Dodgers have been trying to handle better as the second half begins. Their defense helped protect the slim edge in the eighth, Tanner Scott finished it off, and a 2-1 win over the Yankees offered a reminder that when the pitching is sharp and the gloves are clean, this team can still win the kind of game that usually decides October. Dodgers Bring Back Another Familiar Arm And Fans Know The Drill

The Dodgers have gone back to a familiar formula with pitching depth, bringing back a left-hander who already knows the organization after a brief detour through free agency. He was designated for assignment, cleared waivers, and then returned on a minor league contract, a sequence that has become almost routine for clubs trying to keep enough arms available over a long season.

Now assigned to Triple-A Oklahoma City, he gives Los Angeles another experienced option waiting in the wings if the big league staff needs help again. He has pitched in the majors before with Minnesota and also spent time with the Cubs, so this is less a fresh start than another chance to stay close enough to the Dodgers to matter when the next opening appears.
