Dodgers Fans Will Have Thoughts On This Roberto Clemente Award Result

Deck: Francisco Lindor makes a lasting impact both on and off the field, earning baseballs prestigious Roberto Clemente Award for his character and community contributions.

Francisco Lindor’s 2026 Roberto Clemente Award win puts the Mets shortstop in rare company and adds another chapter to a franchise history that now includes five honorees.

Lindor was selected as the league-wide winner, with Will Smith serving as the Los Angeles Dodgers’ nominee this year. The award recognizes a Major Leaguer for extraordinary character, community development, philanthropic excellence and positive contributions on and off the field, and each club submits one player for consideration.

The winner is chosen through fan voting and a blue-ribbon panel made up of representatives from the commissioner’s office, Capital One, MLB-affiliated networks, MLB.com, the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Roberto Clemente’s children, Enrique, Luis and Roberto Clemente, Jr.

Lindor received the award at Tropicana Field before Game 3 of the World Series between the Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays. MLB commissioner Rob Manfred and Roberto Clemente’s son, Luis Clemente, both delivered speeches during the pregame ceremony.

“I want to start by saying this is a huge honor and privilege to receive this award. I want to thank MLB, Rob, and the rest of the staff for putting something for the players,” Lindor said.

“We don’t really try to be recognized by the work we do in the communities, but there is something that we get out of it. So it’s a huge honor.

“I want to thank the Clemente family for fighting for your dad’s legacy, fighting for the world to continue to find out what he did, how he carried himself. It’s truly humbling to share a stage and share my name and be on the plaque with Clemente’s iconic batting, running mechanics after he hit the ball.

“I’m blessed. I’m honored.

I want to thank the rock of the family, my wife, for everything that she does on a daily basis, holding it down for the family and making sure our daughters and our son are being raised the right way. There’s no job harder than your job, and what you do doesn’t go unnoticed.”

The award carries an especially fitting link for Lindor because of his Puerto Rican background, the same connection shared by several previous winners from Puerto Rico: Edgar Martinez in 2004, Carlos Delgado in 2006, Carlos Beltrán in 2013 and Yadier Molina in 2018.

Capital One will donate $100,000 to SEEN Foundation in Lindor’s honor. Lindor and his wife, Katia, work with the organization, which focuses on disability advocacy and self-advocacy through access to text-based Assistive Technology Communication supports.

Lindor’s charitable work also includes Lindor’s Leaders Program with New Balance, support for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, an annual back-to-school initiative in Queens, the Francisco Lindor Scholarship Fund at Montverde Academy, and disaster relief and advocacy for Puerto Rico.

He joins Gary Carter (1989), Al Leiter (2000), Carlos Delgado (2006) and Curtis Granderson (2016) as Mets players who have won the Roberto Clemente Award since it was created in 1971. The Dodgers have four winners of the honor: Steve Garvey in 1981, Clayton Kershaw in 2012, Justin Turner in 2022 and Mookie Betts in 2025.

Dodgers Could Be Lurking For Baseballs Next Huge Trade Prize

Junior Caminero has spent the season looking every bit like the kind of young power bat that changes a lineup, and the 23-year-old Rays third baseman has only raised his profile with a strong showing in the 2026 World Series after launching 42 home runs in the regular season. For a Tampa Bay club that has long had to weigh talent against payroll reality, that kind of production puts Caminero squarely in the center of a future decision the Rays may not want to face.

Jorge Castillo reported that Caminero is aiming for a record-setting contract in the neighborhood of the deals signed by Juan Soto or Vladimir Guerrero Jr., a price tag Tampa Bay may not be able to match. If that path eventually opens the door to a trade, the Dodgers would make plenty of sense as a contender with the financial muscle, a deep farm system and the roster flexibility to chase another star-caliber addition. Dodgers Just Added A Wild Baseball Show Fans Will Circle Now

Dodger Stadium is getting a very different kind of baseball show in April 2027, when the Savannah Bananas and their Banana Ball World Tour come to Los Angeles. The announcement adds another layer to a ballpark that has hosted just about everything over the years, but this one is built around the Banana Ball style that has turned the Bananas into one of the sports most talked-about attractions.

The event will use a lottery system for ticket access, which figures to make the chase almost as notable as the show itself. More details on game times and other event information are still to come, but for Dodgers fans, the date is already one to mark down because this is not the usual night at the ballpark. Dodgers Face One Crucial Free Agency Call After Costly Misses

Tarik Skubal, a two-time Cy Young winner set to hit free agency, still sees the Dodgers as a franchise built to stay at the top even after their sweep in the National League Championship Series. That kind of external belief matters for a team that just watched its season end earlier than expected, especially with the front office already weighing how to retool around a roster that came up short when it counted most.

Brandon Gomes has already acknowledged the uneven regular-season returns from Kyle Tucker and Edwin Diaz, even as both players made meaningful postseason contributions, which only adds to the sense that Los Angeles has decisions to sort through on the margins as much as the stars. One of those calls centers on left-handed reliever Alex Vesia, who is also headed for free agency and could draw interest elsewhere even if the Dodgers try to keep him on a team-friendly deal.
