Dodgers' Anthony Banda Stunned by Shocking Roster Move

Anthony Banda, pivotal in the Dodgers' recent successes, is unexpectedly designated for assignment, reshaping the team's bullpen dynamics.

In a surprising twist, former Los Angeles Dodgers left-handed relief pitcher Anthony Banda shared his reaction to being designated for assignment (DFA’d) by the team. Banda, who played a crucial role in the Dodgers' recent World Series campaigns, was caught off guard by the news.

The Dodgers made the decision to DFA Banda in early February after claiming catcher Ben Rortvedt from the Cincinnati Reds. Interestingly, Rortvedt also found himself designated for assignment shortly after, making way for reliever Evan Phillips, who inked a one-year deal with the team. Banda's journey took another turn when the Minnesota Twins claimed him on February 12.

Reflecting on the moment he found out, Banda said, "I couldn’t get any words out. I was so shocked."

Banda's tenure with the Dodgers in 2024 and 2025 was marked by impressive performances. In 2024, he posted a 3.08 ERA across 48 appearances, and in 2025, he maintained a solid 3.18 ERA through a team-leading 71 appearances. His postseason contributions were equally noteworthy, with a 1.13 ERA in the 2024 playoffs and a spotless record in the 2025 postseason until the World Series, where he encountered some challenges.

As the Dodgers look to fill Banda’s shoes, they’ve reshaped their bullpen with several left-handed options. The addition of closer Edwin Diaz bolsters a roster that includes Tanner Scott, Alex Vesia, and Jack Dreyer-all capable of stepping into high-pressure roles.

Meanwhile, Justin Wrobleski has been turning heads with his recent performances. Transitioning from the bullpen to potentially starting, Wrobleski has yet to allow a run in six innings of Cactus League action, making him a strong contender for the Opening Day roster.

“I feel good,” Wrobleski shared with SportsNet LA’s Kirsten Watson. “Today was a good one.

Just continuing to try to attack and be on the front foot against these hitters. I feel good with my new mechanics, so everything’s going smooth.”

With this depth, the Dodgers appear to have moved on from Banda, focusing on maximizing their international bonus pool money and strengthening their bullpen for the upcoming season.
