The Dodgers were busy bolstering their pitching staff on Wednesday, making some strategic moves to enhance their 40-man roster. First up, they acquired left-hander Jake Eder through a trade, and later in the day, they picked up right-hander Grant Holman off waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Holman, who has spent parts of the last two seasons in the majors with the Athletics, brings a 4.66 ERA and a 4.42 xERA to the table over 40 games. In those appearances, he racked up 33 strikeouts against 18 walks across 38 2/3 innings. His 2025 season was cut short due to rotator cuff tendinitis in his right shoulder, sidelining him for over three months.
Originally a sixth-round pick in 2021, Holman's journey saw him claimed off waivers by the Diamondbacks from the A’s back in February. However, Arizona designated him for assignment last week as they finalized their opening day roster.
Turning 26 on May 31, Holman has accumulated one year and 31 days of major league service time. He still has two minor league option years left, having used one in 2025.
To accommodate Holman on the roster, the Dodgers moved pitcher Gavin Stone to the 60-day injured list. This move doesn’t alter Stone's recovery timeline much. He’s currently pain-free and has resumed throwing at Camelback Ranch in Arizona after being shut down during spring training due to shoulder issues.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts provided an update, indicating that Stone is essentially at the pre-spring training stage. Stone will need to follow the usual progression of building up innings as he works his way back to the majors, following a missed 2025 season due to shoulder surgery.
