Dodgers Ace Blake Snell Stuns Fans With Unexpected Bullpen Session

Blake Snell's encouraging bullpen session signals progress for the Dodgers' ace, but the team remains cautious as they navigate early-season rotation challenges.

Dodgers' Rotation: Navigating Early Challenges with Depth and Optimism

GLENDALE, AZ- As the 2026 MLB season approaches, the Los Angeles Dodgers' starting rotation was initially seen as a formidable asset, further bolstered by the addition of free agent Kyle Tucker. With Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Blake Snell, and Tyler Glasnow leading the charge, the Dodgers clinched their second consecutive World Series title last year, showcasing their pitching prowess.

However, the rotation's strength is being tested early on. With the season opener just weeks away, injuries to Blake Snell and young right-hander Gavin Stone have left gaps in the anticipated six-man rotation.

But there's a silver lining. Snell, who has been slowly ramping up his activity, threw off a mound twice this past week, including a bullpen session at Camelback Ranch on Thursday. His progress is promising.

“I was very excited to throw off the mound again,” Snell shared. “I was throwing 87 to 89 mph, and it felt effortless with good command. I’m happy with that.”

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts echoed this optimism, noting that Snell's progress is a positive sign. “It’s a good step in the right direction,” Roberts commented.

“This isn’t a max-effort bullpen, but being on the mound is great. We’ll know more once he’s going full steam.”

While Snell humorously mentioned aiming for a late-April return, realistically, he might be six to seven weeks away from full readiness. The Dodgers are taking a cautious approach, valuing Snell’s contribution for the postseason and not rushing his return. Meanwhile, lefty Justin Wrobleski and right-hander River Ryan are in line for rotation spots.

Justin Wrobleski Steps Up

With Snell and Stone sidelined, Justin Wrobleski is being prepared as a starter this spring. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has indicated that both Emmet Sheehan and Wrobleski are being considered for starting roles this season.

As the Dodgers plan to utilize a six-man rotation, Wrobleski and possibly Sheehan could find themselves in the Opening Day lineup. Right-handers Gavin Stone, Roki Sasaki, and River Ryan are also contenders for these spots.

The Dodgers’ depth and strategic planning are key as they navigate early-season challenges. With a blend of seasoned stars and emerging talent, they remain a formidable force in the league.
