The Dodgers ended their 2026 regular season the way they’ve spent so many recent Octobers trying to finish things: with another 100-win campaign on the ledger and Dave Roberts moving into a historic tie.
Los Angeles beat the San Francisco Giants in extra innings to complete the series sweep and lock in win No. 100, even though the club had already wrapped up its postseason seeding before the final series began. The games were more about sharpening up for October than changing anything on the bracket.
For Roberts, though, the sweep carried a different kind of weight. It gave him his sixth 100-win season as a manager, putting him alongside Bobby Cox and Joe McCarthy as the only skippers in MLB history to hit that mark six times. Roberts previously reached the century mark in 2017, 2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023.
Now he’s tied for the record, with a real chance to own it in the seasons ahead.
Roberts’ overall body of work keeps stacking up, too. He ranks seventh all-time in winning percentage at .621, and since Jackie Robinson broke MLB’s color barrier, no manager has posted a better mark. Among managers with at least 10 years in the job, only Vic Harris, who managed from 1936 through 1948, sits ahead of him at .664.
The Dodgers’ latest trip to 100 wins also fits a familiar pattern. It was their first 100-win season since 2023 and their fifth in the last seven full seasons.
Franchise-wise, they’ve now done it 12 times, starting back in 1899 when the team was known as the Brooklyn Superbas. Four of those 12 came in Brooklyn.
Their single-season record still belongs to the 2022 team, which won 111 games. Before that, the top mark had been 106, reached in both 2021 and 2019. The previous franchise high belonged to the 1953 Brooklyn Dodgers at 105.
The milestone has been a little cruel, though, when it comes to the World Series. The Dodgers have never won it all in a season when they’ve reached 100 victories. They’ve made the Fall Classic four times in those years and come up short each time.
Roberts’ run of success also extends into October, where he is climbing toward another major record. He currently ranks third all-time with 69 postseason wins and could have a shot at the MLB mark by the end of 2027.
Tony La Russa is second with 71, while Joe Torre owns the record with 84. Roberts would reach 80 with another World Series win.
