Clippers wing Jordan Miller is facing a long road back after undergoing surgery Wednesday to repair a torn rotator cuff in his left shoulder.
ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that the injury happened during an offseason workout, and sources told him Miller is expected to be reevaluated in about six months. That timeline would keep him out until at least after the All-Star break, with his entire 2026/27 season potentially in jeopardy. The Clippers have since confirmed the report.
The setback lands at a painful moment for Miller, who had just landed the richest deal of his NBA career earlier this offseason. The 2023 second-round pick signed a three-year, $15.3MM contract in July as a restricted free agent after putting together a modest breakout campaign in 2025/26.
Taken with the 48th pick in the 2023 draft, Miller barely saw the floor in his first two seasons before carving out a real role last year. He appeared in 60 games, averaging 10.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 22.1 minutes per night while shooting .531/.345/.777. He was also moved from a two-way contract to a standard NBA deal in February.
The Clippers had previously held a team option on Miller for 2026/27 worth approximately $2.5MM. Exercising it would have lowered his cap hit this season, but it also would have put him on track for unrestricted free agency in 2027. Instead, Los Angeles turned it down and worked out the new restricted free-agent agreement.
Miller’s new deal pays him $5.3MM in year one and is fully guaranteed for only that season. The contract includes a non-guaranteed $5MM salary for 2027/28 and a $5MM team option for 2028/29. How this injury affects his standing with the Clippers now remains unclear.
