Opening week in the NBA keeps rolling tomorrow night with one of the league’s most familiar matchups, but the Lakers and Clippers won’t be bringing full rosters to the stage. When the two Los Angeles teams meet for the first time this season, both sides are dealing with injury absences that could shape what the game looks like from the jump.
For the Lakers, Cameron Carr is out with a right oblique strain and Adou Thiero has been ruled out because of a left knee effusion. That trims the bench, though the damage is mostly confined to players who wouldn’t be expected to carry heavy minutes anyway unless the game gets out of hand. Jake LaRavia is listed as questionable with a right ankle sprain, while Walker Kessler is available despite a left finger splint.
The bigger boost for the Lakers is at the top of the rotation. Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves are both set to play without restrictions, giving Los Angeles its three most important pieces for this meeting. LaRavia could still provide some help if he’s able to go; he already chipped in 10 points off the bench in Wednesday’s win.
The Clippers’ injury picture is much tougher. Bradley Beal will sit with knee injury management, and he joins Brandon Ingram, Jordan Miller, Yanic Konan Niederhauser and Max Strus on the sideline. Ingram is out after right heel surgery, Miller is recovering from rotator cuff surgery, Niederhauser is out following right Lisfranc surgery, and Strus is sidelined by a right plantar fascia tear.
That leaves the Clippers trying to stay afloat while they continue to sort through the aftermath of the Kawhi Leonard drama. They did show something in a blowout win over the Kings earlier this week, but the absences make it hard to know how much of that can carry over against a deeper opponent.
The challenge is simple: while the Lakers are missing mostly fringe rotation players, the Clippers are without some of their best options, and several of them may be gone for weeks or even months. That puts extra pressure on players like Darius Garland and Rui Hachimura to absorb more of the load.
So on paper, this looks like a game the Lakers should control. They’re at home, they’re healthier, and they have the best players available on the floor. If they want to stack wins and keep pace with teams like the Thunder and Spurs, this is the kind of matchup they’re expected to handle.
Still, the Clippers should bring plenty of fight, which at the very least should make for a lively night. More than anything, both teams will be hoping their injury lists start shrinking while the season is still young.

Clippers Just Added A New Lakers Twist Fans Will Be Watching
Rui Hachimuras next stop has plenty of added intrigue for Southern California basketball, even before he puts on a Clippers jersey. After spending his recent seasons with the Lakers, Hachimura is heading across town on a two-year, $28 million contract, giving the Clippers another rotation piece while also turning a familiar face into a fresh subplot for fans who track every layer of the rivalry.
Hachimura has spoken warmly about his time with the Lakers and sounded upbeat about the move, but the backstory is what makes this one linger. On a night when rookie Keaton Wagler also made a strong regular-season debut for the Clippers, the bigger picture around the roster keeps shifting, with injury updates across the league still shaping what both teams will look like as the season unfolds. Bulls Rookie Just Entered A Debate This New Topps Drop Exposed
The NBA season is barely underway, but rookie debuts are already being turned into collectibles, with Topps rolling out a limited-time batch of NBA Debut Inscription Autograph cards to mark the first games of several high draft picks. It is the kind of release that turns an ordinary opening-night box score into a keepsake, and it gives collectors a quick snapshot of how the leagues newest names are beginning to settle in.
For Clippers fans, the appeal is obvious because these early games are already part of the teams story, especially with one of the rookies in the mix coming off a strong first impression in Los Angeles win over Sacramento. The debut card set highlights a handful of newcomers across the league, but the wrinkle here is how each player entered the NBA stage differently, and that detail only adds to the debate over which first showing really stood out. Tyronn Lue Turned A Routine Clippers Win Into A Statement
A routine home win can still carry extra weight when the stakes around the organization are larger than the scoreboard, and that was the case for the Clippers after their 121-96 victory over the Kings. Tyronn Lue had no trouble treating it like more than just another notch in the standings, using the moment to make the night about the people around the team as much as the play on the floor.
The backdrop is hard to miss in Los Angeles, with Steve Ballmer serving a season-long suspension after the NBA found salary cap circumvention involving Kawhi Leonard. For Lue, the victory offered a chance to send a message of support in the middle of a tense stretch for the franchise, even as the league's attention has also been pulled elsewhere by notable Achilles returns from Damian Lillard and Tyrese Haliburton.
