Tyreek Hill Reacts Cryptically to Chargers Move Involving Former Dolphins Coach

Tyreek Hills enigmatic response to Mike McDaniels next move adds intrigue to the former Dolphins coach's fresh start with the Chargers.

Tyreek Hill doesn’t usually need many words to make a statement-and his latest tweet was no exception. As news swirled that former Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel is closing in on a deal to become the Chargers’ new offensive coordinator, Hill took to social media with a short, eyebrow-raising message: “Mike to the chargers hm.”

It’s not the first time Hill has chimed in cryptically since McDaniel’s departure from Miami. Just after the Dolphins dismissed McDaniel on January 8, Hill posted a GIF of comedian Kevin Hart saying, “Damn!”-a reaction that spoke volumes without saying much at all.

McDaniel’s run in Miami was a rollercoaster. Hired in 2022, he quickly made his mark by transforming the Dolphins’ offense into one of the league’s most dynamic units.

In 2023, Miami led the NFL in total offense, and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa posted career-best numbers under McDaniel’s guidance. The offense was fast, creative, and at times, downright electrifying.

But the momentum didn’t last. The Dolphins stumbled to a 7-10 finish in 2025, missing the playoffs for the second straight year.

Over his four seasons in Miami, McDaniel compiled a 35-33 record and took the team to the postseason twice-but couldn’t notch a playoff win. That lack of postseason success ultimately led owner Stephen Ross to make what the team called a “comprehensive change” at the top.

Since his departure, McDaniel has been a hot name on the coaching market, interviewing for multiple head coaching and coordinator roles. On Tuesday, reports surfaced that he’s set to become the offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers-a move that would pair him with quarterback Justin Herbert and give him a fresh start in a system that fits his offensive creativity.

McDaniel also reportedly withdrew from the Cleveland Browns’ head-coaching search to focus on the Chargers opportunity, signaling just how appealing the Los Angeles job is to him.

Meanwhile, the Dolphins have already turned the page. The team hired Jeff Hafley as its new head coach, signaling a new era in South Florida as they try to get back into the playoff mix.

But McDaniel’s decision to join the Chargers instead of the Philadelphia Eagles has sparked some strong takes-especially from former NFL linebacker and current analyst Emmanuel Acho. On his podcast Speakeasy, Acho didn’t hold back, calling McDaniel’s choice a “huge indictment” of Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts.

“Why would you not want to go coach the best offensive roster in football… unless the person who dictates your success as an offensive coordinator, you have questions about - this Jalen,” Acho said, pointing to the fact that Philadelphia has been a proven launchpad for coordinators aiming for head coaching gigs, citing the recent rises of Shane Steichen and Kellen Moore.

According to reports, McDaniel never even visited Philadelphia during the hiring process. Instead, he zeroed in on Los Angeles, where he’ll now look to reboot his career alongside Herbert and a Chargers offense that’s been searching for consistency.

For Dolphins fans-and perhaps for Tyreek Hill-it’s a bittersweet moment. McDaniel brought innovation and swagger to Miami, but ultimately couldn’t deliver when it mattered most. Now, he’s headed west, and the Dolphins are left to chart a new course without the man who once turned their offense into must-watch TV.
