Travis Kelce gave the Chiefs a scare on Sunday, but he finished the game against the Chargers and, according to Andy Reid, did it while dealing with an ankle injury.
The moment came early enough to turn heads: Kelce hit the turf and appeared to turn his right ankle on a tackle from Daiyan Henley. Not long after, cameras showed him on the sideline getting the ankle examined, worked on and taped. The NFL on CBS Sports shared the scene on X, and Kelce wound up staying on the field the rest of the way.
Kansas City handled business anyway, rolling past Los Angeles 22-6. Afterward, Reid confirmed that Kelce was not fully healthy, even if he kept playing through it.
“Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said Jaylon Moore has a concussion, Travis Kelce played through an ankle injury, Jalen Royals was checked for a concussion but he was OK and Kingsley Suamataia got kicked in the calf,” Chiefs beat writer Pete Sweeney of The Kansas City Star shared on social media.
Reid did not get into specifics on how serious the ankle issue might be, but the update at least confirmed Kelce was battling something.
Before the game was over, former NFL team doctor David Chao weighed in on X with his read from the video.
“By video, mild right high eversion ankle sprain,” he said. “Possible to tape and return.”
That’s exactly what happened. Kelce got taped, came back, and finished the night. There’s still no word on whether he’ll be available for the Chiefs’ Week 7 matchup with the Seattle Seahawks, though Reid didn’t suggest he was headed for a long absence.

Chargers Offensive Collapse Is Fueling A Bigger Justin Herbert Debate
The Chargers 0-6 start has put a harsh spotlight on an offense that has struggled to find any real rhythm, and the frustration goes beyond the scoreboard. Under offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel, the unit has looked out of sync in ways that have revived familiar questions about how well the scheme fits Justin Herbert, especially with protection issues up front and play calling that has left too much to sort out in real time.
All the while, the defense has done enough to keep the team from looking completely lost, which only sharpens the contrast on a side of the ball that was supposed to drive this season. With the offense still searching for answers and the losses piling up, the bigger conversation now includes whether a coaching change is coming before the disconnect gets even harder to ignore. Chargers Hit Bye Week With One Problem They Cant Ignore
The bye week arrived with the Chargers carrying far more frustration than relief after another loss to Kansas City. What stood out in the defeat was the gap between how the two sides of the ball performed. The defense did enough to keep the game from getting away, with Cam Hart's interception helping limit the Chiefs inside the red zone, while Quentin Johnston provided one of the few offensive sparks with a 57-yard catch.
Still, the bigger concern is impossible to miss heading into the break. The offense reached scoring position more than once and never found the end zone, leaving the Chargers searching for answers as they try to turn things around after a start they had not seen in a quarter century. Even with the defense showing some fight, the season's direction will be defined by whether the team can fix the problem that keeps showing up in the most important moments. [Read more 🡒]
Chargers Bye Week Just Turned Up The Heat On Mike McDaniel
The Chargers bye week arrived with more than a little urgency attached to it after a rough offensive showing left the staff under a brighter spotlight. Jim Harbaugh didnt try to downplay the issue, acknowledging that the offense needs to be addressed and that the coaching staff will spend the week evaluating where things stand.
For Mike McDaniel, that means the next few days could carry real weight. Pro Football Talk has reported speculation that the Chargers could soon make a change at offensive coordinator, and senior offensive assistant Adam Gase is viewed as a leading option to step in if that happens, turning a routine pause in the schedule into a potentially significant pivot for the offense.
