Keenan Allen Suits Up, But Stays Quiet in Week 14 Clash with Eagles
Coming into Week 14, Keenan Allen had already silenced a lot of doubters. After signing with the Los Angeles Chargers, plenty of folks questioned how much the veteran receiver still had in the tank. But with 622 receiving yards heading into the matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles - second-most on the team - Allen had made it clear: he’s still a major piece of this offense.
What makes that production even more impressive is the depth around him. The Chargers have no shortage of weapons, and Allen has continued to carve out his role despite the crowded receiving room. But in Sunday’s game against Philadelphia, that target competition finally seemed to catch up to him - or at least, limit him.
With under four minutes to play in the game, Allen hadn’t seen a single target. Not one.
And while that might raise some eyebrows, it’s less about Allen and more about how the Chargers' passing attack struggled as a whole. Outside of a handful of big plays, the offense never found a consistent rhythm through the air.
Yes, Allen was active. Yes, he was healthy. But the ball just never came his way.
Quarterback Justin Herbert opened the game leaning heavily on his running backs, not even looking toward his wideouts on the first drive. That trend continued deep into the game, with Allen stuck on the sidelines of the stat sheet.
It’s certainly not what we’re used to seeing from one of the league’s most reliable route runners. But sometimes, even the best get game-scripted out - especially in an offense that’s still trying to find its identity late in the season.
The hope now? That this is just a blip on the radar. Because if the Chargers want to make a real push down the stretch, getting Keenan Allen involved again isn’t just a good idea - it’s a necessity.
