The Los Angeles Chargers are off to a 0-2 start, and after another ugly loss Sunday, some frustrated fans decided Justin Herbert’s fiancé, Madison Beer, was the culprit.
Los Angeles dropped a 26-14 decision to the Las Vegas Raiders, matching the exact score from its Week 1 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. It was the Chargers’ second straight defeat against a team expected to be near the bottom of the standings, and once again they let the opportunity slip away.
Herbert had a rough afternoon. He finished 15 of 192 yards, with one touchdown and two interceptions, and the second pick sealed the game for good after the Chargers got the ball back just before the two-minute warning trailing 24-14. Herbert then forced an underthrown pass into triple coverage, and it was intercepted to effectively end any comeback hope.
The backlash online quickly turned toward Beer, who got engaged to Herbert this year and had been seen at training camp and sharing plenty of public affection with the quarterback over the summer. A few angry posts blamed her for Herbert’s struggles and suggested the relationship had thrown him off his game.
One Chargers fan account posted, 'I truly blame Madison Beer for this loss,' read a post on X from a Chargers fan account. 'Ever since Herbert proposed, I knew he wasn’t going to be locked in.'
Another user said, 'Justin Herbert f***ing blows. He needs to break up with Madison Beer and lock in.'
'Herbert’s had to learn numerous different playbooks since Oregon. This offseason he was tasked with probably the most complex offense of his career and he spent it with Madison Beer instead. Trade him to another franchise so he can turn into prime Drew Brees and let us rebuild,' read another angry post.
One post read, 'Justin Herbert went from an All-Pro QB to one of the worst QBs in the league in one off-season. Madison Beer & [Chargers offensive coordinator] Mike McDaniel, what have you guys done man.'
For a Chargers team that some projected to win the AFC West, the early-season picture has turned sour fast. And the schedule doesn’t offer much relief: next week brings a road trip to face the red-hot Buffalo Bills.
