Chargers Fans Suddenly Have A Ladd McConkey Trade Deadline Question

As the NFL trade deadline looms, the Steelers are eyeing potential deals to bolster their receiving lineup and bolster their playoff push, with the Chargers' Ladd McConkey and Jaguars' Brian Thomas Jr. rumored targets.

The Steelers may not wait around to make their move.

At 5-2, Pittsburgh has a chance to take control of the AFC North by beating the 5-2 Cleveland Browns in Pittsburgh on Nov. 1.

But even if that game goes the wrong way, the expectation is the same: the Steelers are likely to be active before the Nov. 10 NFL trade deadline.

One name floated in that conversation is Chargers receiver Ladd McConkey. In a Casino.org piece published Tuesday, league insider Jason La Canfora suggested Pittsburgh could check in with Los Angeles or Jacksonville about help at wideout.

“With second-round pick Germie Bernard looking like Pittsburgh’s latest draft gem - and someone who can do the most damage in the slot...adding a piece on the outside who can work crossers and the middle of the field could fortify another playoff run," La Canfora wrote. "After decades of operating as a conservative front office, the Steelers are wheeler-dealers now.

One scout suggested to me that someone like Chargers wideout Ladd McConkey might be the kind of target [quarterback Aaron Rodgers] would enjoy throwing to to help sustain drives. Brian Thomas Jr. of the Jaguars is another name to keep an eye on."

That fits the broader picture around Rodgers, who turns 43 in December and is a major reason Pittsburgh is being viewed as a win-now team. The wide receiver chatter has been attached to the Steelers since before the 2026 NFL Draft even began.

The numbers also help explain why. ESPN had Rodgers ranked 24th among qualified players on Tuesday with a 49.8 adjusted QBR. Pro-Football-Reference had him finishing Week 7 at 21st with an 88.9 passer rating and 24th with a 61.6 percent completion percentage.

As for the two teams mentioned, the Chargers’ situation makes them worth watching. Los Angeles is 0-6 coming out of its bye, and a franchise reset could be coming.

Jacksonville presents a different case, but Brian Thomas Jr. hasn’t exactly looked untouchable. In the Jaguars’ 34-31 loss to the Houston Texans on Oct. 18, he appeared to be the third- or fourth-choice option at the position.

Still, Jaguars head coach Liam Coen said Monday that Thomas is "gonna be able to help us make plays this week." It remained unclear by Tuesday whether that would actually be the case when 4-2 Jacksonville hosts the 2-5 Indianapolis Colts on Nov.

Chargers May Have A Justin Herbert Protection Move Worth Watching

The Chargers have spent plenty of time looking for ways to give Justin Herbert a cleaner pocket, and one name that has surfaced in that conversation is guard Wyatt Teller. Los Angeles needs more stability up front, and Tellers profile is the kind of fit that naturally draws attention when a team is searching for help in the trenches.

What makes the idea worth watching is the timing. Teller has slipped out of the Texans starting lineup this season after signing a two-year deal in Houston, which has only added to the sense that he could be available if a trade market develops ahead of the deadline. For the Chargers, the appeal is obvious, but the question is whether the cost and the fit line up well enough to make a move. [Read more 🡒]

Chargers Are Suddenly Facing A Herbert Decision Fans Dread

Justin Herberts long-term future is suddenly tied to a franchise that has spiraled to 0-6 and now sits in a spot no one in the building expected to be discussing this early: the top of the draft board. With the roster battered and multiple holes to address, the Chargers are already being pushed into evaluating a wide range of options at premium positions, while the front office also has to keep one eye on the market ahead of the Nov. 10 trade deadline.

The bigger problem is that the draft conversation has gone from abstract planning to something that could reshape the franchises direction around Herbert himself. When a team is this far off course, every path carries risk, whether it means staying put and taking a player to stabilize the roster or considering a move that would alter the entire future of the offense. For a fan base that has spent years waiting for the roster to catch up to its quarterback, the next decision feels a lot bigger than just another draft pick. [Read more 🡒]

Chargers May Have A Tough Call On This Talented Young Receiver

As the NFL trade deadline gets closer, Brian Thomas Jr. has emerged as one of the more intriguing names to monitor around the league. The Jaguars wide receiver looked like a breakout player during his rookie season, but his production has dipped since then, and that has opened the door to speculation that Jacksonville could at least hear out offers. For the Chargers, it is the kind of development worth watching closely, because adding a young receiver with his talent would immediately raise questions about how he would fit into their offense and what level of urgency they want to show.

The appeal is obvious enough for a team that can always use another playmaker, but so is the uncertainty. Thomas still carries the profile of a receiver worth betting on, yet the fact that his situation in Jacksonville has become murky makes any possible move feel a little more complicated than a simple talent grab. If the Jaguars truly decide to move him, the Chargers would have to weigh both the upside and the cost, with the deadline offering only a brief window to decide whether this is the right swing to take.
