Chargers Eye Key Move To Protect Herbert

The Chargers are considering a savvy move to bolster their offensive line and provide Justin Herbert with the much-needed protection for the upcoming season.

The Los Angeles Chargers' offseason strategy has left many scratching their heads. With glaring needs and ample cap space, fans expected a flurry of moves to shore up the roster. Yet, the Chargers have been relatively quiet.

Justin Herbert found himself on the turf 54 times last season, ranking third in the league for most sacks taken. You'd think bolstering the offensive line would be priority number one. The Chargers did make moves by bringing in Tyler Biadasz and Cole Strange, but it seems more reinforcement is needed.

Enter Kevin Zeitler, a name that might not light up the marquee but could be exactly what Herbert needs. Once considered one of the league's top right guards, Zeitler, at 36, still has plenty left in the tank.

He earned a Pro Bowl nod in 2023 and remained solid with the Tennessee Titans last season, particularly in pass protection. Adding him could be a smart play for the Chargers.

Sure, some might question bringing in a veteran at this stage in his career. But when your franchise quarterback is spending more time dodging defenders than making plays, any upgrade is welcome. With Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt returning, plus the additions of Biadasz and Strange, Zeitler could provide much-needed depth and stability.

In the end, it's not about flashy names; it's about keeping Herbert upright and effective. Zeitler might not be the star, but his experience and reliability could be just what the Chargers need to turn their offensive line from a liability into a strength.
