Chargers Could Catch A Huge Break In Raiders Week 2 Plan

Raiders face uncertainty as star tight end Brock Bowers' recovery progress raises questions about his availability for the crucial Week 2 clash against the Chargers.

The Raiders got a small boost on Friday, but Brock Bowers’ status for Week 2 is still very much up in the air.

Las Vegas is headed to SoFi Stadium to take on the Chargers on Sunday after opening the 2026 NFL season with a 27-13 win over the Dolphins. That victory came without one of the team’s biggest offensive pieces, since Bowers sat out the opener following a knee procedure.

Bowers was back on the practice field Friday for the first time since having a meniscus trim on September 8. He was spotted during the portion of practice open to reporters, which marked a welcome sign for a Raiders team hoping to get him back quickly.

Even so, the week has not exactly pointed toward a full return. Bowers did not practice Wednesday or Thursday, and the Raiders’ official Week 2 injury report listed him as a non-participant on both days, with the knee identified as the issue.

Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak said TE Brock Bowers (knee) is doubtful for Sunday's game.

Bowers had been labeled day-to-day after the procedure, and Kubiak said Wednesday that he was not ready to practice at that point, though the coach still held out hope that the tight end could get back onto the field during the week.

That caution makes sense for a player who matters so much to the offense. Bowers caught 64 passes for 680 yards and seven touchdowns in 12 games last season, giving Las Vegas a major threat in the passing game.

In his absence against Miami, Michael Mayer took on a bigger role and finished with six catches for 32 yards. Ashton Jeanty also chipped in through the air, catching six passes for 45 yards and scoring two receiving touchdowns in the win.

The Raiders still haven’t confirmed whether Bowers will play against Los Angeles, and Friday’s practice work should give the clearest clue yet about his chances of making his regular-season debut. Until the final injury designation comes down, he remains one of the biggest questions hanging over Las Vegas’ Week 2 prep.

Chargers Suddenly Have A Raiders Problem Beyond Justin Herbert

The Chargers opened at home with a loss to the Cardinals, and the ugly part was how thoroughly the problems spread across the roster. Justin Herbert did not get enough help, but the roughest stretch may have come on special teams, where the kick return unit repeatedly left Los Angeles buried in poor field position and made the offense work from too far back too often.

Now the attention turns quickly to a divisional stretch that already includes the Raiders, and that is where the hidden cost of those special teams issues could show up again. For a team trying to keep pace in a tough early schedule, the margin is thin enough without giving away field position snap after snap, and the Chargers will need a cleaner third phase before the AFC West race starts getting even tighter. Chargers May Have An O-Line Fix Fans Need To Watch

The Chargers offensive line has already shown why it will stay under a microscope, with the team rotating players at left guard and giving up multiple sacks in a recent game. That kind of instability tends to linger for a contender, especially when it keeps forcing the staff to patch one spot while trying to protect the rest of the front.

One name worth keeping on the radar is Iowas Kade Pieper, whose profile has started to surface as a possible answer for a team that could use more help up front. The fit is still speculative and tied more to traits and need than any real draft certainty, but the idea is simple enough for Chargers fans: if the line remains an issue, this is the sort of prospect who could matter by the 2027 NFL Draft. Bills Injury Update Just Changed The Feel Of Chargers Week 3

The Bills are heading into Week 3 with another receiver situation worth monitoring, and it has a direct impact on the Chargers preparation. DJ Moore suffered an AC joint sprain in his shoulder during Buffalos Week 2 game against the Detroit Lions, an injury that is not considered serious but still leaves his status in limbo as the week unfolds.

For a Chargers defense already locked into a quick turnaround in attention and game planning, the uncertainty matters. Moore is being treated as day-to-day, and his availability for the matchup in Los Angeles remains up in the air, which means the Bills could be forced to adjust on the fly depending on how he responds before kickoff.
