Mike Trout Has Angels Entering Uncharted Territory

Mike Trout's explosive start propels the Angels toward a hopeful new era, breaking a long-standing playoff drought.

The Los Angeles Angels are turning heads early in the 2026 season, kicking things off with a bang by winning their first two games, including a solid 6-2 victory over the Houston Astros on Friday. This marks the Angels' best start since 2007, finally breaking a 19-year streak that even franchise icon Mike Trout hadn't witnessed until now. Trout, the three-time MVP, has endured a decade of tough seasons and hasn't seen playoff action since 2014.

Trout's performance so far is nothing short of spectacular. He's gone 4-for-6, launched two home runs, and drawn four walks in just 10 plate appearances.

With a batting average of .667 and an on-base percentage of .800, Trout is off to a historic start. His solo shot in the fifth inning on Friday was a career first, marking the first time he's homered in the opening two games of a season.

He also snagged a base and racked up three hits in the second game.

Newcomer Josh Lowe, acquired in a January trade, is already making waves. He went 2-for-4, including a double and a three-run homer that broke a 1-1 tie in the second inning. Zach Neto also made his presence felt with a double and a ninth-inning homer, adding two extra-base hits to his tally.

On the mound, Yusei Kikuchi delivered a gritty performance, allowing two earned runs on eight hits over 4⅓ innings, with three strikeouts and a walk, throwing 86 pitches. The bullpen has been lights out, combining for 7⅔ scoreless innings across the first two games.

In Friday's win, Chase Silseth, Ryan Zeferjahn, Sam Bachman, and Jordan Romano shut down the Astros over the final 4⅔ innings. Zeferjahn was particularly impressive, retiring all six batters he faced, while Bachman fanned three.

The Angels aim to keep this momentum rolling into game three of their four-game series against the Astros on Saturday. If they continue playing like this, it could be a season to remember for Angels fans.
