Cozart gives the Angels the catching prospect they had been looking for ahead of the deadline. MLB Pipeline ranks him as the No. 18 prospect in Cleveland’s system, and the Angels see him as a possible successor to Logan O’Hoppe after last week’s trade with the Texas Rangers.
At 23, Cozart has posted a 96 wRC+ this season across 327 plate appearances. He is not expected to step right into the majors, but he should be part of the conversation next year.
For Adell, the deal closes a chapter that never quite settled into a long-term fit. He broke out with 37 home runs last season, a power surge Angels fans had been waiting on, but with a free agent date after the 2027 season, he no longer looked like an obvious piece of the club’s future.
