Tom Brady, now a minority owner of the Raiders, is stirring up some intrigue about a possible return to the field. Recently, he shared a highlight from a flag football game where he dodged defenders and launched a perfect pass to Stefon Diggs, adding a cryptic comment: “Gets you thinking.”
Yet, during an appearance on CNBC, Brady was clear about his current status, stating he’s “happily retired.” Still, there’s a hint of curiosity.
When CNBC’s Alex Sherman asked Brady if he’d looked into the rules about an owner playing, Brady admitted, “Funny enough you ask. I actually have inquired.
And they don’t like that idea very much.”
This admission suggests Brady’s question wasn’t just idle chatter. Why even bring it up if there’s no genuine interest? It’s clear that Brady’s still pondering the idea, even if it’s just a flicker of possibility.
Of course, for Brady to make a comeback, he’d need to sell his stake in the Raiders. He acquired it at a discounted rate and would likely need to offer it back to majority owner Mark Davis rather than selling it elsewhere. For now, Brady seems content to hold onto his ownership role and enjoy some flag football on the side.
But as Brady himself said, the thought of playing while owning “gets you thinking.” The competitive itch is still there, and given his legendary skills, he could probably outperform some current starters even now.
Will this desire fade? Probably. But if it doesn’t, selling his share back to Davis could provide a straightforward exit if he decides the field is calling him once more.
