The Raiders have given the impression that Brady holds considerable sway over football operations. Back in January 2025, owner Mark Davis highlighted Brady as the football mind he felt the organization had been missing since Jon Gruden's departure. Davis expected Brady to bring much-needed stability to the franchise.
Fast forward to earlier this year, following the firing of coach Pete Carroll after just one season. The Raiders stated that General Manager John Spytek would lead football operations "in close collaboration with Tom Brady."
However, Brady himself painted a different picture last June, describing his role as more of a "limited partner." He emphasized that Mark Davis is in charge, with Pete and Spytek handling their respective duties. Brady saw himself as a "sounding board" for their decisions.
So, where does Brady truly stand? Is he a close collaborator or merely a sounding board? When pressed about his future role over the weekend, Brady's response was notably vague.
There are a couple of possibilities here. Brady might be trying to sidestep scrutiny due to the team's ongoing struggles. Alternatively, there could be a disconnect between how the Raiders and Brady view his role.
If it's the latter, this misalignment could eventually cause friction. Brady acquired his stake in the team at a favorable price, likely with the expectation that he'd actively contribute. If he's perceived as passive, merely offering input from the sidelines, it might lead to some regret from those at the helm.
