The Tennessee Titans appear to have zeroed in on their next offensive coordinator - and it’s a name that carries plenty of weight: Brian Daboll. But there’s a catch, and it’s one that could throw a wrench into Tennessee’s plans. Daboll is still in the running for the Raiders’ head coaching job, and everything hinges on how that process plays out in Las Vegas.
According to reports, the Titans are ready to bring Daboll aboard to run the offense under new head coach Robert Saleh. Daboll, the former Giants head coach, brings a strong offensive pedigree and a reputation for quarterback development - something that lines up well with Tennessee’s focus on grooming Cam Ward in his second NFL season.
But before the Titans can ink the deal, they’ll have to wait out the Raiders’ decision. Daboll had a second interview with Las Vegas on Tuesday, and if he lands that job, Tennessee will be forced to pivot.
There’s a layer of familiarity here that adds intrigue. Daboll already interviewed with the Titans during their head coaching search before they ultimately hired Saleh.
That means the front office has already gotten a good look at his offensive philosophy and how he might tailor a system around Ward’s skill set. On top of that, Daboll and Saleh have some shared history - while they were on opposite sidelines, both spent time coaching in the same building at MetLife Stadium, Daboll with the Giants and Saleh with the Jets.
That kind of proximity often leads to mutual respect and understanding, which could make for a smooth working relationship if things come together.
As for the Raiders, their timeline to name a head coach remains murky. But if they decide to go in a different direction, the Titans are poised to move quickly.
Daboll would bring instant credibility to a young offense looking for identity and leadership. And if he ends up in Nashville, it could be a significant step in shaping the Titans' future - especially when it comes to unlocking Cam Ward’s potential.
For now, though, it’s a waiting game. Tennessee has their guy. Now they just need Vegas to make their move.
