Rams Reveal Davante Adams Trade Talks Happened

Rams Head Coach Sean McVay opens up about trade talks involving WR Davante Adams, highlighting the importance of transparency and team priorities.

At the NFL owners meetings, Rams head coach Sean McVay confirmed that Los Angeles had indeed considered trading wide receiver Davante Adams. While there were discussions, McVay emphasized that the talks never reached a serious stage, and ultimately, the Rams decided to keep Adams on their roster.

McVay explained, “We always explore different avenues to enhance our team, and we discussed how potential moves might impact Davante. I spoke directly with him about it.

If it had been the right move for us, we would have pursued it. But it wasn’t, so we’re excited to continue with him.”

Addressing the swirling narratives, McVay stressed the importance of transparency with his players. “I believe in handling these matters directly.

Davante’s a great player and a mature individual. We’re always looking to strengthen our team, but this wasn’t the path for us.”

Reflecting on past experiences, McVay hinted that previous trade scenarios, like the notable departure of QB Jared Goff, influenced his current approach. “I’ve learned from past situations and aim to be straightforward.

I told Davante about the discussions, even though they didn’t progress far. It’s crucial to be honest and open, and I’m thrilled to have another year with him.”

Adams, now 33, has had quite a journey through the NFL. Originally drafted by the Packers in 2014, he signed a significant extension before being traded to the Raiders in 2022.

After a stint with the Jets, he joined the Rams in 2025 on a two-year deal. Last season, he played 14 games, recording 789 yards and 14 touchdowns, proving he’s still a vital asset to the Rams’ offense.

McVay’s commitment to clarity and the team’s decision to retain Adams highlight their strategy to remain competitive while valuing their players’ contributions and well-being.
