The Raiders have made a strategic move by bringing Omar Young on board as their new running backs coach. Young, who was set to begin his second season coaching running backs at the University of Iowa, will now lend his expertise to the Raiders' backfield, including standout Ashton Jeanty.
At 42, Young brings a wealth of experience primarily from the college level, but he's no stranger to the NFL. His professional journey began with the Browns as an offensive assistant in 2015. He then honed his skills with the Packers as an offensive quality control coach from 2017 to 2018, and later with the Bears in 2022 in a similar capacity.
Young's versatility was on display in 2023 when the Bears elevated him to the role of wide receivers coach and assistant quarterbacks coach. His NFL journey continued with the Patriots in 2024 as an offensive assistant. However, the firing of Jerod Mayo as the Patriots' head coach after just one season led Young back to college football.
Now, with the Raiders, Young has the opportunity to make a significant impact on an NFL roster, bringing his diverse coaching experience to a team eager to bolster its running game. His track record suggests he's well-equipped to elevate the Raiders' rushing attack to new heights.
