Raiders Offense Faces Growing Pressure In A Brutal Spot Against Buffalo

With the Raiders facing a potential three-game losing streak against the strong Buffalo Bills, pressure mounts on key players to deliver a game-changing performance.

The Raiders can’t afford another flat Sunday, and Week 7 brings a brutal test in Buffalo. Las Vegas is trying to halt a three-game skid, but the Bills come in at 4-1 with Josh Allen under center. The one silver lining for the Raiders is that Buffalo is coming off a short week.

That context only sharpens the pressure after Las Vegas’ loss to the New England Patriots, a defeat that left plenty of concern behind. The Raiders need real production from a few key players if they want to keep this one from getting away.

At quarterback, Cousins did not single-handedly sink the Raiders in the 28-point loss, but the position is already under a microscope. With a No. 1 overall pick quarterback waiting on the bench, fans are already talking about Fernando Mendoza whenever the losses pile up.

Cousins is expected to remain the starter for now, and his job security should not hinge on one game. Even so, another rough outing would only intensify the noise around a possible change.

If Las Vegas drops a third straight, especially with the Los Angeles Rams next, the chatter around Mendoza figures to get louder. Still, Klint Kubiak is not expected to make a quarterback switch anytime soon.

Jeanty is another player who has to start giving the Raiders more. He entered the season already dealing with an injury from training camp, and that issue carried into Week 1.

He has been fighting through injuries ever since, and the production has reflected it: 85 rushing yards on 25 carries over the last two games. He also has not scored a rushing touchdown this season, and he has three games in which he averaged fewer than three yards per carry.

None of that means Jeanty isn’t a good player. It does mean he has to start asserting himself between the tackles, though the injuries may be keeping him from doing that.

The idea of sitting him for at least one week has been floated, but if he plays, the expectation is that he produces.

The receiver group has its own problem: someone needs to emerge as the true WR1. Right now, the Raiders’ passing game has gone through Brock Bowers, while Jeanty ranks third on the team in receiving yards.

Tre Tucker is second with 274 yards on 19 catches, but the offense still lacks a legitimate outside threat beyond Bowers. That leaves Las Vegas without much room for error against a Buffalo defense that can make life miserable fast.

Maxx Crosby Draws New NFL Punishment After Raiders Loss To Patriots

The Raiders Week 5 loss to the Patriots brought another bit of fallout for one of the leagues most visible defenders. Maxx Crosby was docked by the NFL after a helmet-to-helmet hit on New England defensive tackle Cory Durden, adding a postgame cost to a frustrating afternoon for Las Vegas.

Crosbys punishment stood out around the league, too, since it was the biggest individual fine handed out in Week 5. For a Raiders team trying to steady itself after the defeat, it was another reminder that the edge Crosby plays with can come with consequences beyond the box score. [Read more 🡒]

Raiders Defense Faces Its Biggest Test Yet Against Josh Allen

The Raiders defense spent the early part of the 2026 season looking like one of the better units in the league, but the recent stretch has been a reminder of how quickly the week-to-week grind can change. After giving up high point totals to the Chiefs and Patriots, Las Vegas now turns to Buffalo, where the challenge gets much steeper against one of the NFLs most dangerous offenses.

Josh Allen and Joe Brady bring a different kind of test, the sort that forces a defense to be sharp on every snap and disciplined in every gap. Defensive coordinator Rob Leonard is sorting through his options as the Raiders try to steady things again, knowing the Bills can beat teams in a variety of ways and leave little margin for error. Raiders Need Surprise Standouts Fast Against A Bills Test They Can't Dodge

Two straight losses have left the Raiders heading into Buffalo needing answers in a hurry, and the margin for error against the Bills is already thin. Las Vegas has been searching for a spark in a few different places, with the running game, the tight end room and the secondary all under the microscope as the team tries to find someone who can tilt the next matchup.

Washington looks like the back in line for a larger role while Ashton Jeanty continues to work back from injury, giving the Raiders a chance to reshape the ground game if they can lean on the right runner. Thomas is another name worth watching after a quiet start to the season, and Stukes could be asked to help the defense create the kind of turnovers that can keep Buffalo's offense from settling in.
