Raiders Linked to 31-Year-Old Candidate in Shocking Coaching Twist

Despite his age and limited coaching rsum, Davis Webb's standout interview and insider support may give him an unexpected edge in the Raiders head coach search.

The Raiders are still in the thick of their head coaching search, and while several names have been floated, one candidate is starting to gain serious traction: Davis Webb.

Now, when you hear Webb’s name in the mix with more seasoned options like Klint Kubiak and Mike LaFleur, it might raise an eyebrow. After all, Webb is just 30 years old and hasn’t been coaching for long. But don’t let the résumé fool you-his stock is rising fast in Las Vegas, and there’s growing buzz that he could be more than just a dark horse.

According to multiple insiders, including Albert Breer, Webb may actually have the inside track. Breer, speaking on The Rich Eisen Show, called Webb “the most interesting name” in the Raiders’ coaching search.

And it’s not hard to see why. Webb is highly regarded around the league, and while his coaching experience is limited, he brings something different to the table-recent playing experience, a strong football IQ, and connections that matter.

One of those connections? Tom Brady.

While their relationship is described as more passing than personal, Webb is reportedly tied to two offensive minds who are close to Brady: Brian Daboll and Kliff Kingsbury. Daboll and Webb overlapped in both Buffalo and New York during Webb’s playing days, and Kingsbury nearly landed in Vegas a couple of years ago.

Those ties could prove valuable, especially if the Raiders are looking to pair a young head coach with a veteran coordinator who can help develop the quarterback room.

Breer laid out what might be the Raiders’ thinking: go early on a young, high-upside coach, surround him with experience, and build a long-term vision. It’s a bold approach, but not without precedent.

And after a 2025 season that saw major changes in the organization-most notably Pete Carroll’s departure-there’s a sense that Tom Brady and GM John Spytek might be more open to a fresh voice. Someone who can grow into the role rather than arrive fully formed.

Webb’s interview reportedly left a strong impression. In fact, "phenomenal" was the word used by Hondo Carpenter, a well-connected Raiders insider.

Webb met with the team earlier this week, and according to Carpenter, the Raiders were “very pleasantly surprised” by the session. While nothing’s guaranteed, a second interview wouldn’t come as a shock to those in the know.

So yes, the Raiders could go with a more conventional hire like Kubiak or LaFleur. But don’t sleep on Davis Webb.

He might not have the years on the sideline, but his football mind, leadership traits, and connections inside the building are giving him real momentum. In a league where timing and fit matter just as much as experience, Webb might be hitting the right note at exactly the right time.
