Raiders Get Their Biggest Reality Check Yet In Kansas City

As the Las Vegas Raiders prepare to face the Kansas City Chiefs in a pivotal Week 4 showdown, a victory could redefine their season and solidify their place among the NFL's elite contenders.

The Raiders don’t have to call Sunday a statement game, but that’s exactly what it is.

A Week 4 trip to face the Chiefs gives Las Vegas a chance to turn a 3-0 start into something bigger than a hot streak. Beat Kansas City, and the Raiders would move to 4-0 with two division wins already in hand. At that point, they’d be in position to control their own fate, even with a tough stretch still waiting after this one.

That stretch matters. The Los Angeles Rams, Buffalo Bills, and New England Patriots are next on the schedule, and the Raiders would likely be underdogs in most of those games.

A win on Sunday would give them breathing room. Even if they dropped the next three after Week 4, they’d still be sitting at 4-3.

That’s still ahead of schedule, and it changes the way the rest of the month looks.

That’s why this matchup carries so much weight for Klint Kubiak’s team. Plenty of people around the league still aren’t sold on Las Vegas, even after the three-game winning streak to open the season. A victory over Kansas City would force a different conversation.

Of course, that’s the hard part.

Patrick Mahomes has been a nightmare for the Raiders since becoming the Chiefs’ starter, and Las Vegas has needed something close to a miracle to beat him. The last time the Raiders got it done, their quarterback didn’t complete a pass after the first quarter, and the defense turned two Mahomes turnovers into touchdowns. Kansas City didn’t lose another regular-season home game for a full season after that.

That’s the level of effort it has taken to knock off Mahomes and the Chiefs.

Sunday will also be a real test of how far the Raiders have come. The coaching and talent gaps that used to separate these teams have been addressed to a significant degree, and Las Vegas has shown enough through three games to suggest it can line up with anybody. But the Chiefs will expose whatever is still missing.

For the Raiders, the formula starts on defense. That’s been the backbone of their 3-0 opening, and it has to show up again if they’re going to have a shot in Kansas City. They need to slow Mahomes for enough drives to give the offense room to work.

They also have to deal with Kenneth Walker, one of the league’s best running backs. If Walker gets going, it only makes Mahomes more dangerous. Las Vegas has to keep him in check on early downs so Kansas City isn’t living in comfortable third-down situations.

That’s a lot to ask, especially against a team that will challenge the Raiders in ways they haven’t been challenged yet. But that’s what makes Sunday matter.

Las Vegas has already shown it can win games. Now it gets a chance to prove it can stand toe-to-toe with one of the league’s best for four quarters.

Raiders Suddenly Need More From The Offense Before Chiefs Game

Jack Bechs Week 3 injury forced the Raiders to lean harder on depth than they had probably planned, and the answer from offensive coordinator Andrew Janocko has been a familiar one: adjust on the fly and spread the workload around. Las Vegas has already started using its tight end duo more heavily, while also looking for ways to get other receivers involved and keep the formation flexible enough to hide the absence of a key target.

With the Chiefs up next, the Raiders offense needs to be more than just serviceable, because a one-player loss can quickly become a wider test of how adaptable the unit really is. Janockos approach points toward more versatile personnel packages and a bigger role for the run game and additional pass-catching options, but the real question is whether all of those moving parts can add up to enough production against a tougher opponent. Raiders Week 4 Push Comes With A Bigger Rams Question

The Raiders head into Week 4 with a bigger-picture roster lens than the usual divisional urgency, because the game in front of them is only part of the conversation. With Kansas City on deck, the focus stays on keeping the season moving, but the evaluation behind the scenes is already widening toward next offseason and how Las Vegas can better support coach Klint Kubiaks system.

Much of that attention is landing on the Rams, where several players have become relevant free-agent names for the Raiders to monitor. Their recent form makes the fit worth exploring, and Las Vegas has reason to study how those pieces might translate if the front office decides to add more help on either side of the ball. The Week 4 push matters now, but the roster-building questions are starting to matter just as much. [Read more 🡒]

Former Raiders DC Suddenly Faces Pressure Steelers Fans Didn't Expect

Patrick Grahams move from Las Vegas to Pittsburgh was supposed to give the Steelers a fresh defensive voice heading into the 2026 season, and for a stretch it looked like the kind of hire that could settle things down. Instead, his first few weeks on the job have brought the same sort of uneven results that followed him at times with the Raiders, where the relationship between coach and organization never felt especially smooth.

Now the pressure is building in a place that rarely waits long to judge. Recent game footage appeared to catch T.J. Watt showing visible frustration toward Graham, a telling moment for a defense that is still trying to find its footing amid larger organizational issues. For a coordinator brought in to steady things, the tension is starting to become part of the story. [Read more 🡒]
