The Las Vegas Raiders are making moves to bolster their backfield, even with Ashton Jeanty firmly established as their go-to running back. Enter Najee Harris, a seasoned runner who’s catching the Raiders’ eye during free agency.
Harris, fresh off a visit with the Seattle Seahawks, is now set to meet with the Raiders. His journey back to the field is noteworthy, especially after a tough break last season with the Los Angeles Chargers, where a torn Achilles cut his year short after just three games. The fact that Harris is back on the free agency circuit suggests he’s ready to make a comeback, though his destination remains undecided.
For the Raiders, Harris would be a valuable backup to Jeanty. Currently, Dylan Laube and Chris Collier are in line to fill that role. While both have potential, Laube’s nine yards on seven carries last season and Collier’s lack of carries suggest the Raiders might be keen on adding a more experienced presence.
Harris brings a proven track record from his time with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he consistently rushed for over 1,000 yards each season, never dipping below six touchdowns. His impressive stats include 4,312 rushing yards and 28 touchdowns over four years.
While Harris wouldn’t command the same workload in Las Vegas as he did in Pittsburgh, the Raiders clearly see the value in having a reliable veteran backing up their star. Depending on how the meeting goes, Harris could soon be donning the silver and black.
