Raiders Fans Laugh At Aaron Glenn Geno Gamble

Despite past struggles, Jets coach Aaron Glenn backs Geno Smith as the bridge to future success, a move that leaves Raiders fans chuckling.

A year ago, the Las Vegas Raiders were buzzing with excitement. They had a new head coach, Pete Carroll, bringing a fresh wave of credibility, and the acquisition of quarterback Geno Smith from the Seattle Seahawks seemed promising.

However, the season didn’t pan out as hoped. Smith faced challenges, throwing 17 interceptions (tying for the league's most) and enduring a league-high 55 sacks, despite missing two games. Carroll’s stint was short-lived, ending with a 3-14 record, and Smith has since returned to the New York Jets.

Smith’s journey has been quite the odyssey-from a high draft pick with the Jets to a backup role, then a starter for the Seahawks, and now back to New York. While the Raiders have struggled to find a reliable quarterback, the Jets' track record hasn’t been much better.

In New York, the expectation is for Smith to serve as a bridge to the next young quarterback, a role similar to what he had with the Raiders. Interestingly, his efforts helped the Raiders secure the No. 1 overall pick this month.

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn is setting high hopes for Smith’s return. Jets fans remember Smith’s initial stint, but he’s evolved since then, warranting some optimism for his second act.

At the league meetings, Glenn expressed confidence in Smith, saying, "There’s something about a quarterback with a chip on his shoulder. He’s proven himself, especially during his time in Seattle. He fits exactly what we're trying to do, and our offense has a solid foundation now.”

Glenn went on to make a bold statement: "I just feel like he's the guy that's going to lead us to the promised land."

Acknowledging Smith’s past struggles, Glenn noted, "A lot of quarterbacks have their struggles. If you look at the last five years, some top guys have thrown the most interceptions.”

With Glenn’s job on the line after a tough first season, he’s understandably backing his starting quarterback. His praise for Smith echoes Carroll’s past support, a sentiment that might concern Jets fans but brings a smile to Raiders supporters.
