Las Vegas will have to open the season without its top tight end. Brock Bowers has been ruled out for Week 1 against the Miami Dolphins after undergoing a meniscus trim on his knee ahead of the Raiders’ opener.
The injury surfaced on Wednesday, and the door is still open for him to miss more than just the first game. ESPN’s Adam Schefter initially reported Bowers would be out “a week or two,” but the Raiders have not put a clear timeline on his return.
Klint Kubiak ruled Brock Bowers out. He said he was optimistic about his availability even after his surgery, but ultimately he won’t be able to go.
Speaking after practice, Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak said he was optimistic Brock Bowers would play Sunday against Miami despite his torn meniscus repair. Didn’t disclose a possible return-to-play timeline.
The Raiders are clearly being careful here, especially after a PCL injury already cost Bowers multiple games in the 2025 campaign. He played in just 12 games that season, hauling in 64 of 86 targets for 680 yards and seven touchdowns.
His absence has already made noise in the betting market. Las Vegas shifted from 3.5-point favorites to 3-point favorites at several sportsbooks, a notable drop at home.
With Bowers out, the attention turns to other pieces in the Raiders’ offense. Ashton Jeanty stands out as a receiving option for Sunday’s matchup, and he’s the prop I’d be looking at most closely in this AFC showdown.
Jeanty is off the injury report and expected to have a major role. He finished last season with more than 17.5 receiving yards in five of his final 10 games, and across the 2025 campaign he caught 55 passes for 346 yards. With the Raiders thin on the outside, there’s a path to a few designed pass plays for the former top-10 pick.
Michael Mayer should also be in the mix after receiving a contract extension on Saturday, and he and Jeanty figure to be two of the main targets in the offense on Sunday.
For now, the Raiders don’t appear to have a true No. 1 passing-game option while Bowers is sidelined, which is why Jeanty becomes such an interesting play.

Raiders Week 1 Inactives Include One Surprise Fans Didnt See Coming
The Raiders first game of the season brought one notable wrinkle before kickoff, as the clubs Week 1 inactive list against the Dolphins included linebacker Cody Lindenberg. Las Vegas also ruled out quarterback Aidan OConnell, who is serving as the emergency third quarterback, along with tight end Brock Bowers, safety Dalton Johnson, defensive tackle JJ Pegues, cornerback Darrell Luter Jr. and interior offensive lineman Bryce Cabeldue.
For a team sorting through roster decisions and health questions in the opening week, the inactive list offered an early look at how the Raiders want to shape the sideline mix against Miami. Some of the names were expected because of injury or recent acquisition status, but Lindenbergs designation stood out as the one fans probably did not have circled when the day began. [Read more 🡒]
Raiders Face One Big Maxx Crosby Question Before The Deadline
The trade chatter around Maxx Crosby has only grown louder as the November 10 deadline nears, and it all starts with how close the Raiders came to dealing their star edge rusher in the first place. The Ravens backed out of a trade agreement after Crosby failed a physical, which instantly reset the market and sent other contenders back to the table. The Rams were among the most aggressive teams to circle back, but Crosby made it clear he wants to stay in Las Vegas.
Even with that stance, the phone lines are not likely to go quiet. The Eagles, Cowboys and 49ers have all shown interest, and Dallas has emerged as the club that could make the strongest push if it decides to act before the deadline. For the Raiders, the question is no longer whether Crosby has value. It is how long they can hold onto one of the leagues most coveted pass rushers while the rest of the market keeps probing. Ashton Jeanty Injury Scare Just Raised A Bigger Raiders Question
Ashton Jeantys leg injury during Raiders practice on Aug. 23 briefly shifted the focus away from roster battles and onto the kind of scare that can stop a camp in its tracks. Teammates and coaches immediately knelt and prayed for him, a reminder of how quickly a late-summer practice can turn from routine to uneasy. Jeanty later said he felt encouraged by the support around him, which helped steady a situation that had everyone watching closely.
Even before the injury, the Raiders were heading toward a backfield plan that would spread the workload around rather than asking one runner to carry everything. Mike Washington Jr. is expected to share carries with Jeanty in a two-back setup, making the composition of that rotation a real talking point as the season nears. For a team trying to find its offensive identity, Jeantys recovery now matters not just for his own outlook, but for how quickly Las Vegas can settle into the role distribution it already appeared ready to use.
