Raiders Face A Kirk Cousins Decision Fans Didnt Expect

As the Raiders grapple with trade decisions before the deadline, Tom Pelissero weighs in on Kirk Cousins' soaring market value and the potential ramifications for the teams future.

The Raiders are staring at a November 10 trade deadline that could shape the rest of their season, and one name keeps coming up: Kirk Cousins.

Maxx Crosby, at least for now, sounds like he’s staying put. Cousins, though, is the player who suddenly looks like a real trade chip after defying expectations over the first eight weeks of the season. His value has climbed fast, and league insider Tom Pelissero now believes the Raiders may be able to ask for more than the low-round return that once seemed realistic.

Not long ago, a sixth- or seventh-round pick felt like the kind of package Cousins might bring back. Pelissero said this week that the price could be much higher than that, possibly even a day 2 selection. On the Bill Simmons Podcast on Tuesday, he made the case that Las Vegas should not move the quarterback cheaply.

“Well, here’s what it comes down to,” Pelissero said on the Bill Simmons Podcast on Tuesday.

“What are you willing to pay for Kirk Cousins? Are you giving up a second-round pick?

Are you sending a first-round pick for Kirk Cousins? I don’t know why the Raiders would do it for less.”

Pelissero had already laid out why Cousins is drawing attention. A few days earlier, he said the veteran could step into half the league’s offenses right away and explained why the Raiders’ decision would be a tough one.

“Cousins is the one,” Pelissero said.

“Half the league runs a derivative of the offense that he plays in. He’s playing at a really high level and he’s got a $10 million guaranteed roster bonus next March that if the Raiders have the opportunity to offload that money to get a pick for a guy who they’re probably going to end up cutting in March and play the number one pick. It’s hard because you’re in the playoff chase.”

Minnesota is the team that keeps hovering in the background here. The Vikings have put themselves in position to make a Super Bowl run, and the quarterback spot may be the one thing standing between them and that level. That’s why they have to at least consider making a move for Cousins.

Kevin O’Connell’s relationship with Cousins only adds to the speculation, and it’s tough to picture O’Connell being satisfied heading into the playoffs with Kyler Murray at quarterback.

A second-round pick for a 38-year-old quarterback would be a heavy price, but Pelissero suggested the Raiders could still land a third- or fourth-rounder. Either way, Cousins’ market has changed in a hurry.

And with only two more months left in Las Vegas, the bigger question may not be what Cousins is worth - it’s whether John Spytek and the Raiders are willing to cash in early, or keep waiting while Fernando Mendoza sits on the sideline and the season keeps unfolding.

Raiders Still Have One Problem That Could Ruin Their AFC West Push

The Raiders finally got a much-needed break with a close win over the Jets after snapping their losing streak, but the bigger AFC West picture still looks messy. Around the division, the Chargers have been uneven, the Broncos have had their own issues, and the Chiefs remain the standard, which means Las Vegas cannot afford to waste any momentum if it wants to stay in the race.

Even with that win, the defense remains the concern hanging over everything. The Raiders have been giving up points at an alarming rate, and until that side of the ball shows it can hold up for four quarters, every promising stretch on offense comes with a warning label. In a division where small margins matter, that kind of leak can undo a lot of progress fast. [Read more 🡒]

Maxx Crosby Just Sent Raiders Fans A Strong Message

Maxx Crosbys name surfaced in one of the more eye-catching trade conversations around the league, but the edge rusher didnt sound like a player looking for an exit. The Ravens interest alone said plenty about Crosbys value, and it also underscored how central he remains to the Raiders defense as he continues to log heavy snaps and produce at a high level this season.

For Raiders fans, the more important part is where Crosby seems to stand now. He has made clear hes committed to Las Vegas and believes in where the team is headed, which matters for a franchise trying to build around a core piece who still looks like one of its most important players. Even with outside noise swirling, Crosbys message pointed back to the Raiders and to the possibility of what comes next. [Read more 🡒]

Raiders Midseason Free Agency Decisions Are Starting To Get Uncomfortable

The Raiders are already staring at some uncomfortable roster math as they look ahead to the 2026 season, with a handful of players entering contract years and forcing early decisions about who fits the long-term plan. The evaluation breaks the group into familiar buckets for a team trying to sort out its future: players worth extending, veterans who might need a reduced price to stay, and others whose best path may be out the door if the season keeps trending the way it has.

Tre Tucker and Matt Gay stand out as the clearest names in the keep-and-invest category, while the other end of the list is where the tension really starts to build. Some players are being viewed as stopgaps or as pieces the Raiders can move on from if the right young talent is ready to take over, which is exactly the kind of midseason roster conversation that can get awkward fast when a front office is trying to balance present needs against future flexibility.
