Raiders Coaching Search Takes Turn After Davis Webb Steps Away

Davis Webb's unexpected withdrawal adds a new twist to the Raiders' ongoing search for a head coach.

The Las Vegas Raiders are still on the hunt for their next head coach, and one name just came off the board. Davis Webb, who had emerged as a potential candidate, has reportedly withdrawn from consideration, narrowing the field for the Raiders as they look to turn the page following the departure of Pete Carroll at the end of the 2025-26 regular season.

Webb, just 31 years old, has quickly climbed the coaching ranks after wrapping up a six-year NFL career as a backup quarterback. According to reports, he interviewed for head coaching roles with the Raiders, Bills, and Ravens-three franchises that all had vacancies this cycle-but with Buffalo and Baltimore having already filled their positions, and now stepping away from the Raiders job, Webb’s path appears to be shifting.

And that path may lead him right back to Denver, where he’s quietly become a key figure in Sean Payton’s offensive staff. With the Broncos parting ways with offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi following their AFC Championship loss to the Patriots, Webb is reportedly a top internal candidate to take over the OC role. It’s not just a courtesy interview, either-Webb has also drawn interest from multiple teams for offensive coordinator positions, signaling just how highly regarded he’s become in coaching circles.

It’s been a fast rise for Webb, who transitioned straight from the field to the sideline in 2023. After spending time as a backup with several teams from 2017 to 2022, he joined Payton’s staff in Denver as the quarterbacks coach.

He worked closely with rookie Bo Nix this past season, and ahead of the 2025-26 campaign, he was promoted to passing game coordinator while still handling QB duties. That dual role gave him a significant voice in the Broncos’ offensive structure-and it’s paying dividends now as teams look to inject fresh ideas into their playbooks.

For the Raiders, Webb’s withdrawal means the search continues. After parting ways with Carroll, they’re clearly looking for a new direction, and Webb’s blend of youth, recent playing experience, and offensive acumen made him an intriguing option. But with his focus seemingly shifting toward a coordinator role-possibly in Denver-the Raiders will need to look elsewhere to find their next leader on the sideline.

As for Webb, whether he lands the Broncos’ OC job or takes his talents elsewhere, it’s clear he’s a name to watch. He’s part of a growing wave of young, offensively minded coaches reshaping the NFL’s coaching landscape-and his rapid ascent is just getting started.
