Raiders Blowout Loss Just Put That 3-0 Start In Doubt

The Las Vegas Raiders' hot start comes to a screeching halt as they stumble in a crushing defeat against the New England Patriots, sparking serious questions about their season trajectory.

The Raiders’ fast start has hit a rough patch, and Sunday’s trip to New England was the kind of loss that leaves a mark. Las Vegas was beaten soundly by the Patriots, 45-17, a result that came with a lot more than just a second straight loss. It raised real questions about where this team is headed.

What makes the defeat sting is how thoroughly the Raiders were overwhelmed on both sides of the ball. The offense never found enough rhythm, and the defense spent most of the afternoon getting picked apart. For a team that opened the year 3-0, this was a sharp and unsettling turn.

The biggest problem was in the back end, where Las Vegas suddenly looked vulnerable. That’s a major change from the first four weeks, when the Raiders’ defensive backs had held up better than expected.

Against New England, that cushion disappeared fast. Drake Maye went 26-of-34 for 374 yards and four touchdowns, and the Patriots’ passing game stretched the field over and over.

Four different New England receivers had catches of more than 25 yards, and Maye looked nothing like a quarterback who had been struggling for most of the season.

The run defense wasn’t much better. New England ran 31 times for 165 yards and two scores, good for 5.3 yards per carry.

That kind of production puts a defense on its heels in a hurry, and the Raiders made it worse with shaky tackling. Too many ball carriers were slipping through contact or finishing runs after first contact, which is a bad sign if Las Vegas can’t clean that up quickly.

There was one bright spot, and it was the same one Raiders fans keep coming back to: Brock Bowers. The young tight end was targeted 10 times and caught eight passes for 110 yards and a touchdown. He also lost a fumble late, a rough mistake in an ugly game, but it didn’t erase another big performance from one of the team’s most dangerous players.

Bowers’ production also pointed to a larger issue. Las Vegas still needs more reliable help in the passing game outside of him.

Ashton Jeanty was the team’s second-leading receiver with three catches for 50 yards, and while 10 different players recorded receptions, no one else topped 44 yards. The ball got spread around, but there still wasn’t enough consistent damage from the wide receiver group.

That’s what makes Sunday feel heavier than just another bad afternoon. The Raiders had already lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 4, but that game at least left room for optimism because Las Vegas looked competitive.

This one didn’t offer that. The Raiders were embarrassed, and for a team that won just three games last season, the fear is obvious: maybe this is the version of the team that’s real.

Now the burden shifts back to Las Vegas to prove this stretch is a detour, not a collapse.

Adam Butler Sends Raiders A Blunt Message After Another Defensive Letdown

After another defensive letdown in the loss to the Patriots, Adam Butler didnt try to dress it up on the Raiders live postgame show. The veteran defensive tackle stressed accountability and the need to clean up mistakes the hard way, with the team turning immediately to film as it tries to sort out what went wrong and why the unit keeps finding itself in these spots.

Butler matters because he is not just another voice in the room. Signed through 2027 and coming off a career-high workload in 2024, he is expected to be a key part of the Raiders adjustments as they prepare for Buffalo, and his message reflected the urgency around a defense that needs a quick reset more than a long explanation. Patriots Legend Just Reopened A Brutal Wound For Raiders Fans

Adam Vinatieris latest Patriots honor came with a familiar sting for Raiders fans. The Hall of Fame kicker was recognized with his Pro Football Hall of Fame Ring of Excellence during halftime of New Englands game against Las Vegas, a fitting stage for one of the most decorated special-teamers of his era and a reminder of just how often his biggest moments came at the Raiders expense.

Vinatieri used the occasion to look back on those matchups, including the Patriots championship run, while also tying New Englands long stretch of success to Tom Brady. For Las Vegas fans already bracing through the frustrations of a difficult season and still adjusting to Bradys presence in the ownership picture, it was the kind of celebration that reopened an old wound instead of closing it. Maxx Crosby Chatter Revives A Raiders Question Fans Hate

The Raiders rough stretch has already turned the conversation toward bigger-picture decisions, and Maxx Crosby is right back at the center of it. NFL insider Pete Prisco floated the idea that Las Vegas could at least listen on its star pass rusher by the trade deadline, pointing to the losses piling up and a schedule that does not get much easier from here.

It is the kind of talk Raiders fans dread because Crosby is not just one of the most recognizable players on the roster, he is also one of the few foundational pieces they have built around in recent years. Prisco even linked the situation to potential suitors such as the Bears, Cowboys and Jaguars, which only adds to the unease around a player the Raiders have already come close to moving before.
