The Raiders have kept busy this offseason, and their latest move adds another veteran to the backfield mix. Las Vegas signed running back Dare Ogunbowale, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
“Raiders signed veteran RB Dare Ogunbowale,” Schefter wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Ogunbowale comes over after spending last season with the Houston Texans, where he was on the field in all 17 games. He contributed on offense and special teams, logging 11 carries for 25 yards and a touchdown, along with 10 catches for 76 yards. His special-teams work included 16 total tackles and one fumble recovery.
This will be Ogunbowale’s eighth season in the league. He has also played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Washington and Jacksonville Jaguars.
For the Raiders, the signing gives Ashton Jeanty another veteran behind him. Jeanty is expected to handle the bulk of the snaps at running back after a strong rookie year that saw him pile up 975 rushing yards and five touchdowns.
Jeanty has also spent the offseason trying to sharpen his body for Year 2.
“Yeah, the biggest thing to lose from my diet was definitely sugar. That's all of us. I love candy, all of that, so just really cutting that down and, you know, dialing it in more for sure,” Jeanty said via Bryant McFadden of CBS Sports.
“And then just working out, really building up my cardio, getting in better shape. I didn't feel like I was in good enough shape last year, so being able to play, you know, longer than everybody and, you know, be more physical longer, I think is very important at running back.”
