John Morton Rejoins Broncos in Key Coaching Role After Lions Stint

John Morton rejoins the Broncos to revitalize their passing attack, bringing a wealth of experience across the NFL.

The Denver Broncos are making moves to bolster their coaching staff, bringing back a familiar face. John Morton is set to return as the pass game coordinator, a role he previously held with the team for two years before venturing to the Lions as their offensive coordinator last year.

Morton, now 56, has a rich history in the NFL, kicking off his coaching career with the Raiders back in 1993. His journey through the league has seen him contribute to several teams, including the Packers, Jaguars, Chargers, and 49ers. In 2015, the Saints brought him on board as their wide receivers coach, where he spent two productive years before moving on to become the Jets' offensive coordinator in 2017.

Though his stint with the Jets was short-lived, Morton quickly found a new role as a senior offensive assistant with the Raiders. After a year with the Lions, he initially joined the Broncos as their passing game coordinator in 2022. The Lions later tapped him for their offensive coordinator position for the 2025 season, but Morton was relieved of his play-calling duties midseason and was let go at the year's end.

Now, as he returns to Denver, Morton brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the game, ready to enhance the Broncos' passing attack once again.
