The New York Jets are turning the page on offense - and they’re doing it with a familiar face at the helm. On Wednesday, head coach Aaron Glenn tapped Frank Reich as the team’s new offensive coordinator, a move that signals a shift in direction following the dismissal of Tanner Engstrand last week.
Reich brings a deep well of experience to the role. He’s worn both the head coach and coordinator hats in the NFL, most notably leading the Indianapolis Colts to a 40-33 record over four and a half seasons, including a playoff win. While his time in Indy had its ups and downs, Reich’s reputation as a quarterback-friendly coach remains intact - and that could be key to what’s next in New York.
One name already surfacing in connection with Reich’s arrival is Jacoby Brissett. The veteran quarterback, who played under Reich in 2019 with the Colts, is being floated as a potential trade target for the Jets this offseason. Brissett, now with the Arizona Cardinals, has one year left on his current deal and could be available for the right price.
Back in 2019, Brissett started 15 games for Reich, finishing with 2,942 yards, 18 touchdowns, and just six interceptions. While the Colts went 7-8 in those starts, Brissett showed he could run Reich’s system effectively - something that could carry weight in the Jets’ quarterback room, especially with uncertainty still looming at the position.
Fast forward to 2025, and Brissett was back in a starting role for the Cardinals, logging 12 starts. His stat line - 23 touchdowns to 8 interceptions - was solid, but the team’s 1-11 record in those games tells a different story. Wins were hard to come by, but that doesn’t mean Brissett lacks value.
At this stage in his career, Brissett isn’t being brought in to be a franchise savior. But as a seasoned backup who knows Reich’s system inside and out, he could be a stabilizing presence behind center - and a valuable mentor if the Jets decide to draft a quarterback this spring. His football IQ, leadership, and familiarity with the offensive scheme make him a logical fit.
If Arizona is open to dealing him, the Jets wouldn’t need to break the bank. A late Day 3 pick could be enough to land the Super Bowl LI champion and give New York a reliable Plan B - or even Plan C - in the quarterback room. In a league where depth at quarterback can make or break a season, adding someone with Brissett’s experience could be a smart, low-risk move.
With Reich now calling the plays, don’t be surprised if the Jets look to bring in someone who’s already fluent in his language. Brissett checks that box - and then some.
