The Las Vegas Raiders are shaking things up in their wide receiver department with the addition of free agent Jalen Nailor. While Nailor might not have been the flashiest option on the market, his potential and physical attributes could make him a standout in his new role.
The Raiders are still figuring out their top receiver, with Nailor and Tre Tucker yet to establish themselves as clear leaders. Meanwhile, Jack Bech and Dont'e Thornton Jr. are still developing. But adding talent is always a good move, especially when you might have a top-tier quarterback on the horizon.
Las Vegas is eyeing Fernando Mendoza with the first overall pick in April's draft, and Nailor seems eager to team up with the promising quarterback.
Jalen Nailor's Excitement for Fernando Mendoza
Nailor recently appeared on the Up & Adams Show, where Kay Adams asked him about Mendoza. Nailor’s enthusiasm was palpable.
"He's a football guy; he's a football player. He wants to win," Nailor said, highlighting Mendoza's accuracy and mobility.
"He's a mobile quarterback. He can run a little bit.
He's on the taller end, so seeing over the line won't be an issue. He has all the things you want in a quarterback."
Being called a "football guy" is high praise, especially for a quarterback. Nailor's familiarity with Mendoza's style suggests a smooth transition once Mendoza joins the team.
Having worked with young quarterback J.J. McCarthy in Minnesota, Nailor shared how he plans to support a new signal-caller like Mendoza.
"First would just be to learn the offense. Breaking down film, breaking down the playbook.
Just trying to get on the same page," Nailor explained. "Finding times on and off the field to talk ball.
Building as a receiver and building him up as a quarterback."
Adams noted that Mendoza’s strengths align well with Nailor’s, and the receiver agreed, eager to catch those deep passes in Las Vegas.
Raiders fans are optimistic about drafting Mendoza, though past experiences like the Maxx Crosby trade remind them to be cautious. Yet, Nailor’s choice of words-saying they’re "gonna" complement each other-fuels the excitement.
While Nailor isn’t making the team's decisions, his anticipation about Mendoza potentially joining the Raiders is a sentiment Raider Nation can rally behind.
