Giants Host Veteran Defender For Visit Amid Roster Questions

Giants consider seasoned veteran Shelby Harris to bolster their defensive line experience and depth.

The New York Giants are making moves, hosting veteran defensive lineman Shelby Harris for a visit. Harris, a seasoned pro at 34, has had quite the journey through the NFL since being drafted by the Raiders in the seventh round back in 2014.

Harris' career has been a testament to perseverance. He bounced around practice squads early on, with the Raiders giving him a one-year, exclusive rights deal.

But after the 2016 draft, Harris found himself waived and briefly tried his luck with the Jets and Cowboys. His big break came with the Broncos in 2017, where he inked a futures deal and eventually secured a one-year contract worth up to $3.25 million in 2020.

His performance earned him a three-year, $27 million deal in 2021.

The 2022 season saw Harris traded to the Seahawks as part of the blockbuster Russell Wilson deal. But after being released, he found a new home with the Browns on a one-year, $5.25 million contract in 2023, re-signing with them for the following two seasons.

Last year, Harris was a consistent presence for the Browns, playing all 17 games and racking up 32 tackles, seven tackles for loss, a sack, and four pass deflections. His experience and ability to disrupt plays make him a valuable asset for any defensive line, and the Giants seem keen to explore what he can bring to their squad.
