Kentucky basketball fans have plenty to celebrate as Otega Oweh and Malachi Moreno snagged All-Southeastern Conference honors, showcasing their impressive contributions this season.
Oweh, a senior guard, earned a spot on the All-SEC Second Team for the second year in a row. His dynamic play has been a cornerstone for Kentucky, averaging 18.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game.
When it came to SEC matchups, Oweh stepped up even further, posting 21.1 points per game. His knack for scoring is evident, with double figures in 30 of 31 regular-season games and surpassing 20 points in 16 of those contests.
This makes him a standout in the conference, with his 20-point games against SEC rivals being unmatched by any Wildcat since at least the 1996-97 season. Oweh's 1,148 total points also make him one of the top scorers among transfers in Kentucky history.
Meanwhile, freshman center Malachi Moreno made a splash with his inclusion on the SEC All-Freshman Team. Starting 25 of 31 games, Moreno has been a force on the court, leading the team in rebounds and blocked shots.
He averages 8.3 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.6 blocks per game, while shooting an impressive 58.7 percent from the field. His three double-doubles and game-winning buzzer-beater against LSU highlight his potential and impact.
Notably, Kentucky boasts a 10-1 record when Moreno scores in double figures.
These accolades are a testament to the talent and hard work of both players, as well as the promising direction under head coach Mark Pope. Kentucky fans will be eager to see Oweh and Moreno continue their stellar performances as the team heads into the SEC Tournament, starting with a matchup against LSU.
The stage is set for Kentucky to make some noise, and with Oweh and Moreno leading the charge, the Wildcats are poised for an exciting postseason run.
