Otega Oweh And Denzel Aberdeen Reflect On Memorable Farewell At Kentucky

Veteran guards Otega Oweh and Denzel Aberdeen reflect on their impactful journey at Kentucky, expressing heartfelt thanks to the Big Blue Nation after their final game.

Two Wildcats took their final bow in blue and white on Sunday, leaving a legacy that will resonate at the University of Kentucky for years. Senior guards Otega Oweh and Denzel Aberdeen gave it their all, combining for more than half of Kentucky’s points in their 82-63 NCAA Tournament loss to Iowa State.

Oweh tallied 18 points and seven rebounds, while Aberdeen added 20 points, including four three-pointers. Their contributions were pivotal, especially in the latter half of the season, helping the team exceed expectations.

In their farewell press conference, Oweh and Aberdeen expressed gratitude for their time in Lexington, giving a heartfelt nod to the Big Blue Nation.

Aberdeen shared, “I want to thank BBN, Coach Mark Pope, Otega, and all my teammates. From day one, they embraced me like family.

We didn’t achieve our ultimate goal, but I’m proud of my teammates, coaches, and everyone who supported us. I’m forever grateful.”

Oweh echoed those sentiments, saying, “Thank you to BBN and Coach Pope for an incredible two years. We fell short, but I believe the team will come back stronger next year. Playing here has been life-changing, and I’m thankful for every moment with my teammates.”

This season, Oweh and Aberdeen were the heart of Kentucky basketball. Oweh, a two-time All-SEC Second Team honoree, averaged 18.7 points per game, marking his best college season. Aberdeen, stepping into the point guard role for the first time, thrived with 13.3 points and 3.5 assists per game, also achieving his best collegiate season.

Both players transferred to Kentucky-Oweh from Oklahoma and Aberdeen from Florida-and quickly made their mark. Oweh’s memorable moments, including game-winners and a half-court buzzer-beater, have cemented his place in UK history with over 1,200 points. Meanwhile, Aberdeen emerged as a true floor general in his single season as a Wildcat.

Their consistency and ability to deliver in crucial moments made them indispensable to the team. As they move on to the next phase of their lives, their impact at Kentucky will be remembered fondly.

“This is home forever now,” Oweh concluded.
