Meechie Johnson Stuns Kentucky Again With Unpredictable Moves

Meechie Johnson continues to be a formidable force against Kentucky, consistently leading South Carolina to memorable victories.

Meechie Johnson is making headlines once again. The guard, who has bounced between Ohio State and South Carolina, has consistently been a thorn in Kentucky's side throughout his college journey. While his state allegiance may waver, his performances against Kentucky have been nothing short of decisive.

Johnson first made his mark in 2023 when he led South Carolina to a stunning upset over Kentucky at Rupp Arena. In his debut season as a Gamecock, the 6-2 guard from Cleveland drained a career-high six three-pointers, racking up 26 points in a thrilling 71-68 victory. This win was a rare feat for the Gamecocks, marking only their third victory in 31 games at Kentucky and their first at Rupp since 2009.

Fast forward a year, and Johnson was at it again. South Carolina hosted Kentucky and delivered a commanding 17-point victory over the sixth-ranked Wildcats. Johnson contributed significantly with 14 points, four assists, and three rebounds, showcasing his knack for rising to the occasion.

Last season, Johnson was part of the Ohio State team that toppled Kentucky in the CBS Sports Classic in New York. Although he didn't play in that game, his presence on a team that once again bested Kentucky added to his narrative.

Now back at South Carolina for his final college year, Johnson is leading the charge. He tops the team in scoring with 17.1 points per game, along with 4.3 assists and 1.3 steals. His performance escalates in SEC play, where he averages 19.9 points per game, ranking ninth in the league.

Johnson has shown his scoring prowess with multiple 30-point games, including a 35-point explosion against Texas. A significant portion of his scoring comes from the free-throw line, where he boasts an impressive 82.4% shooting percentage and leads the SEC in attempts.

For Kentucky, the game plan is clear: don't let Meechie Johnson get comfortable. Wildcats fans know all too well how dangerous he can be. If Johnson finds his rhythm, he could further cement his reputation as a formidable adversary for Kentucky.
