Kentucky’s pursuit of French forward Cameron Houindo is still very much alive, and Mark Pope has already done more than just check in from afar.
According to Dylan Brake of Bleed Blue Network, Houindo recently sat down for a Zoom call with the Wildcats’ coaching staff. That came after an in-person meeting with Pope in Ljubljana, Slovenia, during the Kentucky coach’s overseas recruiting trip in late April and early May. For a program that keeps casting a wide net, Kentucky’s repeated contact makes one thing clear: Houindo is on the radar.
The 18-year-old forward is already playing professionally for KK Cedevita Olimpija in Slovenia, and he’s quickly built a reputation as one of the more intriguing international prospects eligible for the 2027 NBA Draft. At 6-foot-8, Houindo brings length, athleticism, and versatility to the table. His perimeter shot is still a work in progress, but recent EuroLeague NextGen Tournament games have shown he can attack as a face-up scorer.
Houindo’s rise has been especially noticeable over the past year. He picked up MVP honors at both the EuroLeague NextGen Ulm Qualifier and the 2026 Basketball Without Borders Global Camp during NBA All-Star Weekend. He also put together a strong showing at the EuroLeague NextGen Finals in Athens, where he averaged more than 21 points and nearly 10 rebounds per game.
Before turning pro, Houindo came through France’s INSEP program. He signed with Cedevita Olimpija in 2025 and helped the club win the Slovenian League, Slovenian Cup, and Slovenian Supercup titles.
He’s still a long-term project, but Kentucky’s continued communication says plenty about how the staff views his upside. Pope is clearly keeping tabs on one of Europe’s most promising young forwards.
