Miami just pulled off another major recruiting win, and this one came with a twist.
Brysen Wright, the top-rated wide receiver in the 2028 class, committed to the Hurricanes on Thursday, picking Miami over Texas and Florida. Then he added the surprise: he’s reclassifying to 2027.
Wright has been a name college programs have tracked since he was a freshman at St. Augustine High School. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound receiver is now the top in-state recruit for Mandarin High School in Jacksonville, and his rise has made him one of the most sought-after prospects in the country.
The Hurricanes were the first program to offer Wright back in December 2023, and they stayed in the mix all the way through a crowded recruiting battle. Before narrowing things down, Wright drew offers from Alabama, Georgia, Florida State, Ohio State, LSU, Louisville, Texas A&M, Oregon, and Tennessee. In the end, his final three came down to Miami, Florida, and Texas.
Miami also had the advantage of familiarity. Wright has been around the program plenty, showing up for junior day events, elite recruiting weekend events, and summer prospect camps. His most recent visit came a couple of weeks ago, when he watched the Hurricanes beat Florida State in double overtime.
On the field, Wright has backed up the hype. As a sophomore in 2025, he caught 46 passes for 903 yards and earned Sophomore All-American honors from MaxPreps.
That same site lists him with 46 catches for 984 yards and 11 touchdowns for the 9-1 Mustangs. His next stop is the Florida Class 5A playoffs.
Wright has also been catching passes this season from another Miami commit, 3-star 2028 quarterback Knox Annis. The Hurricanes already have a commitment from 4-star offensive lineman Kweli Fielder out of Carrollton, Ga. in the 2028 class, though Wright’s reclassification means he’ll arrive on campus sooner than those two.
For Mario Cristobal and Miami, the timing matters. The Hurricanes had already landed five 5-star recruits in the 2027 class, and Wright’s pledge only adds to the momentum.
With the Early Signing Period a month away, Miami is still in the hunt for 5-star edge-rusher DJ Jacobs and 5-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews. If the Hurricanes can close on both, the class would take another huge step toward becoming something special.

Kentucky Gets One More Clue About Mark Pope Before Bigger Tests
Preston Spradlins return to Lexington adds a little extra texture to an otherwise straightforward matchup for Kentucky, with the former Wildcats assistant now bringing James Madison to town as the Dukes take on Mark Popes team. James Madison has built a reputation as one of the stronger programs in the Sun Belt, but this is still a game Kentucky is expected to control comfortably, which makes it a useful stop on the schedule for a team still taking shape under its new coach.
For Pope, the bigger subplot may be less about the opponent and more about what the roster looks like moving forward. Kentucky has already ended its recruiting pursuit of two five-star prospects after adding a new center, a sign the staff is beginning to settle in on the pieces it wants around the core. Games like this can still offer a clean read on where the Cats stand, even if the real tests are still ahead. [Read more 🡒]
Kentucky Faces An Early Rupp Question Fans Want Answered
The first meeting between Kentucky and James Madison brings a little extra intrigue to Rupp Arena, especially with Preston Spradlin on the other sideline. The former Kentucky assistant now leads the Dukes into Lexington for a game that will air on SEC Network, giving fans an early look at how the No. 23 Wildcats handle a fresh opponent with a familiar face attached to it.
Kam Williams is the bigger immediate question for Kentucky, though, and his status remains a game-time decision after foot surgery. He took part fully in shootaround, which at least gives the Wildcats some optimism, but the final call will matter for a team still trying to settle in early and for a fan base eager to see how much depth it can lean on right away. Lance Heard Is Giving Kentucky Fans One More Reason To Watch Tennessee
Lance Heard has quietly become one of the more important pieces of Kentuckys season, and now he has the hardware buzz to match the on-field reputation. The offensive lineman was named one of 12 semifinalists for the 2026 Lombardi Award and also landed on the Outland Trophy watch list, a reflection of the steady, high-level play he has brought to the front of Kentuckys offense.
Heard has logged 461 snaps this season and drawn strong reviews from both analysts and coach Will Stein, who has pointed to his leadership and overall impact. With Kentucky set to face Tennessee, Heards rise adds another layer to a matchup that already carries plenty of weight for the Wildcats, especially with one of their most reliable linemen now drawing national attention.
