Archie Goodwin is back, and La Familia needed that news badly.
After Monday’s 82-62 loss to The Ville, the mood around the Kentucky alumni squad had cratered. Montrezl Harrell’s celebration on the scorer’s table after the blowout only rubbed salt in the wound, and the frustration spilled over when former Cat Aaron Harrison called out roster no-shows on X. Goodwin was one of the players caught in that criticism at the time.
Now he’s set to suit up for game three tonight in Lexington, and La Familia confirmed the return on X with a message from Goodwin himself:
"Win and advance, that's all it's about."
That’s the assignment. Beat Louisville’s squad, move on to the next round, and, just as importantly, hand The Ville a third loss in four meetings.
The last time out, La Familia simply couldn’t generate enough offense or deal with Louisville’s size. Harrell took over with 35 points, and that was that.
Goodwin changes the equation. He was La Familia’s leading scorer last summer, putting up 18 points and 6.7 assists per game, and his presence gives the group the kind of shot creation it badly lacked in the previous game. His early commitment this time around made him feel like a foundational piece, so his absence in the opener and the loss that followed hit hard.
Even with Marcus Lee still out and Willie Cauley-Stein dealing with an ankle injury - though he’s still expected to play tonight, per KSR - La Familia suddenly has some real momentum again. Andrew Harrison will need to keep rolling, and Sam McNeil has to be better than 1-for-6 from deep, but Goodwin’s return gives Kentucky’s side a much-needed lift heading into a game that should be tight in Lexington.
