La Familia had to sweat through Sunday’s matchup with Boeheim’s Army, but when the dust settled, Kentucky’s alumni team walked away with a 70-66 win in The Basketball Tournament.
It wasn’t clean. The second half got messy, and missed free throws kept the game hanging in the balance longer than La Familia would have liked. But when the Elam Ending arrived, Archie Goodwin took over and made sure the Wildcats stayed alive.
Goodwin delivered 30 points and came up with a pair of huge baskets late to help close the door on Boeheim’s Army. He added six rebounds, five assists and two steals in a performance that carried La Familia through the finish.
Darryl Morsell also chipped in with a double-double, finishing with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Kahlil Whitney was right there in the mix too, continuing the strong run he’s put together all tournament. Like Goodwin, Whitney has been giving La Familia real production, and both former Wildcats have looked the part for Kentucky’s alumni squad.
That makes Sunday’s win feel a little sweeter for two players whose Kentucky exits didn’t exactly go the way anyone wanted. Goodwin’s UK career ended in the NIT, while Whitney left the program in January. Even so, both are wearing Big Blue well in TBT, and if La Familia finishes the job, they’ll have played a major role in it.
Now the focus shifts to Wednesday, when La Familia plays for the championship against either Kansas or Wichita State at Historic Memorial Coliseum. Tip-off is set for 7 PM ET, with FS1 carrying the broadcast.
