Kentucky’s injury list has picked up another major name, and this one hits the Wildcats where they can least afford it.
According to KSR’s Matt Jones, transfer guard Milan Momcilovic has broken the index finger on his shooting hand, and there is no timeline yet for his return. That’s a brutal development for a team already dealing with plenty of health concerns under Mark Pope.
The Wildcats have been living with injuries throughout Pope’s time in Lexington. In year one, Jaxon Robinson and Kerr Kriisa were lost for the season, while Lamont Butler and Andrew Carr both spent time in and out of the lineup.
Last season brought more of the same, with Jayden Quaintance and Jaland Lowe suffering season-ending injuries and Kam Williams missing almost all of SEC play after breaking his foot. Williams is still working back from a second foot surgery.
Momcilovic is a particularly tough blow because of what he brings offensively. At Iowa State last season, he led the Cyclones in scoring at 16.9 points per game and shot 48.7% from three on 7.5 attempts per game. That kind of production is why Kentucky brought him in, and why his status matters so much with the season still two months away.
Kentucky opens the year on November 3rd, and there’s a real possibility Momcilovic could miss some time before then. Some fans may want to assume a finger injury will be a short-term issue, but if his shooting hand isn’t right, the Wildcats won’t want him out there trying to force it.
The timing makes the situation even more complicated. Kentucky’s November 10th matchup with Kansas in Chicago already looks like a major test, and it becomes a lot harder if Momcilovic and Williams are both unavailable. For Pope and the Wildcats, the hope is simple: both players get back on the floor soon.

Kentucky Fans Heading To Kroger Field Need To Know This First
Fans heading to Kroger Field for Kentuckys matchup with Youngstown State had to navigate an early travel headache Saturday when Interstate 64 East near Shelbyville was temporarily shut down after a wreck. Detours were put in place for a time, and drivers were urged to find alternate routes if they were coming into Lexington from that direction.
The good news for anyone already making the trip is that the shutdown has since been lifted, and the weather in Lexington has also improved after morning thunderstorms rolled through the area. Kentucky Faces One Big Health Question Before Alabama
Kentucky got through its season opener with a few familiar names on the sideline, including starting cornerbacks Terhyon Nichols and Hasaan Sykes, both of whom were dressed but did not play because of minor issues. Head coach Will Stein said the roster should start to get healthier soon, with several players working their way back into the mix as the Wildcats turn their attention to Alabama.
One of the clearer signs of progress is along the line and in the front seven, where Malachi Wood is expected to return after being held out by a calf bruise and Alex Afari is gradually being reintegrated into the team.
