Kentucky Women's Basketball: A Bright Future Ahead
The Kentucky Wildcats may have wrapped up their 2025-26 season, but the future is looking incredibly promising under Coach Kenny Brooks. Tonight, fans can catch a glimpse of what's to come as three of Kentucky's top recruits-guards Maddyn Greenway and Emily McDonald, along with forward Savvy Swords-take the court in the McDonald's All-American girls' game.
Meet the Recruits
Maddyn Greenway, a 5-foot-8 point guard, has been turning heads with her impressive stats and accolades. Winning Minnesota's Gatorade Player of the Year for two consecutive years, Greenway has been a force on the court.
She averaged over 36 points, 9.2 assists, and 6.3 steals per game in her senior season. As the daughter of former NFL linebacker Chad Greenway, she has basketball in her blood, and her high school career is nothing short of historic, with a record-setting 5,621 points.
Ranked No. 8 nationally and the No. 2 point guard in her class, Greenway is set to make a significant impact at Kentucky.
Emily McDonald, a 5-11 guard from Long Island Lutheran High School, is another exciting addition. Known for her versatility, McDonald posted averages of 12.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game.
She played a pivotal role in defeating previously unbeaten Princess Anne in the semifinals of The Throne national championship. McDonald, who also showcased her shooting prowess by winning the 3-point competition at the Sprite Jamfest, is ranked as the No. 37 prospect and the second-ranked combo guard nationally.
Savvy Swords, hailing from Ontario, Canada, brings international experience to the Wildcats. Despite a season-ending injury in 2024, Swords was a standout at Long Island Lutheran, averaging a double-double.
Her leadership on Team Canada’s U16 and U17 teams, where she helped secure silver medals, speaks volumes about her skills and determination. Ranked No. 16 overall and the No. 5 small forward, Swords is ready to shine at the collegiate level.
